Any graduates or so-called 'matures' starting on the 5yr course this September 2005?
Any graduates or so-called ‘mature students’ starting on the 5-year course in a couple of weeks? Anyone else wondering what they’ve let themselves in for? Is anyone moving into halls or are most going to commute?
Is that the end of the questions? … urm I think so. It would be great to know a few names before the start of term.
I am a 'mature' student 25 to be precise. I am going to be living in Barnet in North London and commuting. Has anybody recieved any information about the start of term freshers week??? I am presuming that term starts 26th September but is that when freshers week is or is that term time?
I am more scared about Uni this time than my first degree but I am sure that I will soon get back into the swing of things.
I used to go to school in Barnet (back in the day). I too, am 25 and am slightly scared about starting uni again, although i have been at one for the last 6 years or so.
Travelling in from Barnet is quite a trek. I'm slightly nearer in the crouch end/highgate area, but even then can't face the commute (so hopefully will be moving soon).
I have no idea when term starts, although I heard on 'grapevine' that there may be some sort of registration thing next wednesday (21st), with official lectures starting on the following monday (26th).
I was begining to think that I was the only oldie on the course!!! How come you have been at Uni for the last 6 years? What is your back ground? I am actually V scared. I know that the commute is going to be long but I have never known anything other than a long commute to work. I currently have to get up at 6.15 to get to work so I am thinking it will be better than that?
I have not studied any science (apart from AS Chem) since I was at school so A level bio 7 years ago I am very nervous I am going to be rusty!!
Are you going to any of the Fresher events in the evening?
Do you have an e-mail address? It may be easy to keep contact through that, as I rarely use this (although I am procrastinating a lot today, hence me writing another message).
I have no hard science background. I like you did A-level bio seven years ago. Did an undergraduate psychology degree than just finished (literally) a PhD in psychology at UCL.
Don't know about the freshers events. I've still got a lot to do before the start of term (whenever that is) What about yourself?
Same as you I am leaving work tomorrow so I am running out of things to do!! My e-mail address is rlupham@hotmail.com My name is Becky by the way. Like you I have got so much to do before term starts - as far as I know Freshers events start from Monday, students who are living in Halls are moving in this week.
I think that we have got enrolement on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I think that the formal lectures start w/c 26th September.
Glad that you are also not a die hard scientist although Phd is very impressive - you are aiming for the double doctor!! I have got a Geography Degree and have Biology A level. I recently took AS level Chemistry.
Perhaps we could arrange a time to meet for a coffee during freshers - I am in the process of moving house at the moment so life is pretty hectic - I have still got to build my desk to study at and at the moment have the plumber, electrition and carpenter carrying out work!!
Please e-mail me if you have the chance so perhaps we can meet up in the first week.
Yup I entered that I have an equivalent degree and it still said i was entitled to a tuition loan! So strange.
Thanks! Yeh it's strange but because I don't have biology and chemistry a-levels! Ah...
As far as I am aware you can get a maintenance loan but no fee loan.
Does it ask if you hold an equivalent or higher degree?
Well done on your offer. It's strange how you can be eligible as a...
Hi Profanius,
Thanks for your help! Is the NHS Bursary £9000 for the final year tuition or is it £3500? Also where did you read that we won't get any tuition fees? I know this is the general...
Hi ChocolateOrange
As a graduate on a 5-year course you are entitled to a maintenance loan for each year of study (~£4500 I think). The final years tuition fees are also covered by NHS bursary and...
I had that choice last year, and chose SGUL...mainly due to the course and the desire to exit Nottingham. Derby is a bit grim, but the RDH where the GEM campus is is one of the newest hospitals in...
