    Smile Glasgow medics - advice/help ?

    Hi
I am an undergrad. applying to glasgow and have an interview coming up soon.. I was wondering if anyone could possibly answer a few questions about the med school? as you are probably the people who know best!!

    1. Do glasgow use cadavers? do you find that they help if you do use them?
    2. What kind of clinical experience /patient contact is there in first year?
    3. how do you find the PBL course ? and is there much help/direction from lecturers?

Any help would be kindly appreciated thanks

Yeah we use them, most in first year than anywhere else. Not used as much as they once were but still quite useful. Chronic lack of bodies these days so it tends to be quite crowded unfortunately.

Quite a lot of patient contact, not so much if it actually clinical but it's all based on underlying illnesses. Majority is based in the community with your vocational skills tutor who tends to be a GP.

I still maintain PBL is great, despite what some people will tell you. Unfortunately it's quite hard to imagine before you start. Lectures tend to back up PBL and some lecturers will be very happy to discuss things in more detail if you ask. Some PBL facilitators will give you plenty of guidance, others won't.

Be yourself, be honest, smile, seem friendly.

Ethical scenarios are certainl possible although I don't imagine it is very likely, certainly not for more than a minute or two.
