How important is physics for getting into medicine?

I am taking onto higher next year:

    english
    biology
    maths
    chemistry
    Psychology

    Should I have taken physics?

Our school's career advisor said it is not necessary, but I have heard some people say I have shot myself in the foot by not taking physics.

You really should I have done physics at Standard Grade since almost, if not all of the medical schools ask for it. Also you may want to check if Human Biology is counted as the same as Biology?

For these questions you ought to check out ucas.com or better yet speak to the medical admissions tutors directly.

It's not too late, you can crash Higher Physics in 6th year and it will more or less make up for not taking it at Standard Grade. Although, any offers you get from unis will probably conditionals requiring an A or B in higher Physics + whatever other subjects you do in S6.

I didn't take Biology at SG and crashed it in S6, and I still got an offer.

edit: Human Biology and Biology are equals, at least as far as Glasgow is concerned

Physics, at Standard Grade or Higher is far from being essential for Medicine at Glasgow.

Beneficial, yes undoubtedly. Essential, not at all.

    Aberdeen: Unconditional Offer
    Glasgow: Unconditional Offer (FIRM)
    Dundee: Unsuccessful

Those subjects sound good. Was told that about the physics as well but it's bolox to be honest. Chemistry is useful but you'll probably find biology to be your best asset when you start.

Physics is not essential by any means. If you're interested in it then do it but otherwise I wouldn't worry about it. Just focus on getting the grades in those highers.

Physics is not important in the slightest for applying to medicine.

None of the scottish unis ( apart from maybe edinburgh but even then i don't think so) require any physics.

I crashed physics out of interest and got no conditions onit at all. And all the unis accepted people who i know who applied with no physics.

So in conclusion it is not needed at all, biology is the only specific subject people get conditions on
    Highers
    Biology - A
    Chemistry - A
    Computing - A
    English - A
    Maths - A

    Adv. Biology - A
    Adv. Chemistry - A
    Adv. Maths - A
    Higher physics (crash) - A

    UKCAT - 620, 780, 630 ==> 677

Glasgow - Conditional - BCC Adv Higher
    Aberdeen - Uncondtional
    St. Andrews - Unconditional

    Dundee - Rejection W/o Interview

    Strathclyde (pharmacy) - unconditional
