A question for some current Glasgow students from a soon to be Glasgow student?
Hi

I was just wondering if there was anyone currently studying at Glasgow that could give me a rough idea of the timetable for year 1. I'd love to have an actual look at the layout for the first few months and year one overall really. Currently living in Edinburgh and trying to work out both the practicality of commuting between at least for the first year anyway - and i need to have a clearer idea of actual times im going to be in glasgow at class, and possible outside study time that i could do commuting/at home. Just really wanted to have a quick chat with someone in the know about it all - how long do you roughly spend outside of class preparing for class etc.. you know, all the usual questions
Anyway if anyone could help I would really appreciate it
Thanks
x

It varies from block to block and depends what group you're in but generally
Monday - pbl for 2 hours either 9 - 11, 12 - 2, 3 - 5 depnding on what group you are in. You may then have a lab/frs of some sort which are normally around 2 hours.
Tuesday - You might have VS in the morning for 3 hours (though the length varies on what you are doing/ what your facilitator is like) you will probably then be off for the rest of the day if you had the lab on monday
Wednesday - You might have the day free, or if doing anatomy block might have a dissection for few hours
Thursday - a repeat of pbl for 2 hours at the same time, then probably free rest of the time
Friday - generally when you get a few lectures again a few hours worth
Thsi is very general and like i said varies a lot, every week is different and you noramlly get intro lectures at the start of blocks etc.
Because of pbl it means that all your actual work will be done during the free time you get. Depending on which books you have at home you can do lots of work at home, and if you don't have the relevant book you can spend the free time during the day in the library and go home and do the rest.
The amount of free time you get, and the varying timetable mean ti is upto you how you wish to study.Highers

If you PM me your email address I'll send you one of the first year block timetables. Each block is a little different but it gives you a rough idea.
