Glasgow - entry requirements = help!!!

    Hi folks

Basically - I had planned to move to Edinburgh this year and undertake highers at Stevenson College. Plans went somewhat astray and I am now working full time just outside Glasgow. I am totally new to the area [from Ireland] and would really appreciate some info about where it would be possible to undertake highers in the Glasgow area. I have tried Cardonald, Glasgow Met and Stow and each don't offer highers as an evening class. I can travel anywhere so long as it is in Glasgow - any other suggestions?

    Thanks so much in advance!

Glasgow is odd in that there don't seem to be any part-time higher courses in the evening (at least not the ones you want). Sorry mate, not what you wanted to hear but most seem to run their higher stuff through the day.

In the event that I am wrong ('tis highly likely) double check with Learndirect Scotland to be sure.

have you tried further afield (but still a train ride away)?

south lanarkshire, coatbridge, bell, motherwell, north glasgow, nautical

no idea if any of them do any highers, but worth a look.....

Anniesland I'm sure offer some subjects in the evening - I think that it's not very comprehensive though. Langside offers a lot of courses - including Advanced highers/A-Levels - but of course only during the day.

HI there, I'm currently taking chemistry higher eve class at Langside college on tuesday evenings. Also Anniesland offer higher human biology as an eve class. I decided to take higher human biology through distance learning at stevenson college. I still have to attend 3 assessments and a lab - so 3 visits altogether as I can sit 2 assessments at the one time. It really depends on what highers you want to sit but I'm guessing that if you're posting on a medicine board then chemistry and biology are what you're looking for. Also try ilascotland.org.uk - they offer funding and have a list of courses - go to course search on the left side. Good luck.

Might be too late to tell you this but Stow College run an access course to medical studies. You need to be over 25 but it (almost) guarantees an interview at glasgow med school. I did the course and thoroughly recommend it. I didnt get into med school and have reapplied this year.

Hope this helps and good luck with your application

This is great info! Thanks. I am just clueless about the higher education places in Glasgow and my search on Google has proved somewhat fruitless given that I don't know where anywhere is!

Has anyone done the Stow College access course? I would definitely be a plan b for me as from the looks of it you have to do it full time.

I don't think the "over 25" rule for Stow's Access course is strictly followed. I intended on doing the course last year and got accepted, yet I was only 23.

I'm doing Higher Human Biology at Reid Kerr, Paisley on a Wednesday evening. It's great! Going to do H Chemistry next year but dreading it.
