citizenship requirements for residency in the UK

Hello, I am a canadian citizen currently applying to medical courses in the UK. I have heard that only UK citizens are allowed in UK residency programs. Is that true?

    thanks!

to my understanding (correct me if wrong), no.

but the parliament was debating whether this is going to be true.

they are making their first move though: restricting foreign medics from practising in the UK.

Yes, it's true. International students who received primary medical education in the UK will only be allowed to do FY1 and FY2 posts. After that, they are expected to return back to their home countries. This law might change in the future so it might be worth consulting The GMC at the time of applying for residency posts.

They are the foundation training posts for medical graduates. Basically, two years after medical school you have to work as a junior doctor.
Applied for undergraduate 2010 (A100) at:

Oxford - Interviewed at Somerville and Trinity - Rejected
    Glasgow - Interviewed 01/12/09
    Edinburgh
    Aberdeen - Unconditional
    [COLOR="Blue"]Strathclyde (Biochemistry and Pharmocology) - Unconditional...[COLOR="Orange"]
    UKCAT: 655
    BMAT: 4.6, 5.7, 12 = 22.3/33

*Have never cried secretly in my room so much before! All thanks to UCAS!*

it shouldnt be the case for eu citizens, cos they should be allowed to work freely under european law... someone correct me if i've got the wrong end of the stick...

on a slightly different note though, not sure how many other people have said this but, hidemyemailplease and zhangyuzhi you guys must have pretty similar stats to get interviews from similar unis at about the same time or maybe its just me lookin for meaning in all things coincidental

I thought so too about eu citizens.
I also heard somewhere that if you're an int'l you could have pass or sth to practice in the uk even after fyrs.
[Or you can get uk citizenship after 7 yrs(5ms+2fys) and get rid of all these issues with loads of bureau crap.]

Hmm.. if anyone's interested do read the guidance in the link below.

    Guidance for Overseas Applicants

Citizens of other EEA country / Switzerland can take up a training programme.

According to the MMC guidance above, Tier 4 students on a recognised UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme can also apply for a training programme. Does that not include Non-EEA students graduating from UK universities since they are allowed to do their UK FP anyway?

Also, Medical graduates of Scottish medical schools on a ‘Fresh Talent: Working in Scotland’ visa can take up training programme.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only reason you as a UK graduate will not be allowed to apply for training programme is when you do not have visa to remain/work in UK. And I've been led to believe obtaining this visa is the barrier to most.

my interviewer at Oxford med said internationals will be second to locals when considered for CT/ST positions.

they didn't say absolutely no, but isn't it true that competition for these places are fierce among locals per se?
