Unhappy Rumours about Education needed to be a Doctor

I have recently heard that you need 4 AS levels and 3 A levels in order to become a Doctor. I have always wanted to be a doctor, so thinking that it made no difference, I decided on taking 3 AS levels instead of four in order to focus on the things I really wanted to do. I took Chemistry, Biology and English Literature. If I had known it was so, I would have taken a fourth one. At GCSE, I achieved 4 A*'s and 5 A's.

So, I suppose my question is, do you REALLY need 4 AS levels? And, if so, what should I do to rectify this problem? Thank you.

Some universities do ask for 4 AS levels. Best thing you can o is consult website and prospectuses to find out what requirments of universities you want to apply for are. If they ask for 4 AS levels you can always take an additional one next year.

I have to say most of them ask for 4-AS levels so I would advise you take one next year.....especially now that many candidates are offering 5 to 6 a-levels, it is important to attain the universities minimum requirements in order to be considered x

Argh, thank you. I was offered to take 5, but I was told that in Medicine it is better to have solid A levels in relevant subjects and advised to take 3. It's quite irritating that I'm being messed about by the Education system.

Anyway, thank you both very much.

If you can name 10 that explicitly say they require 4 AS-levels then I'm willing to accept it. But no sir! Not true as far as I'm concerned.

Well that's slightly more reassuring, but perhaps to increase my chances I will look into taking a fourth next year.

Good luck with your university interviews.

To some extent that, that your school has advised dead right!

There are plenty that only ask for three! If you get AAA, that's great. Look at university websites and you'll soon see where you can and cannot apply.

Edit: Thankyou, and good luck with your application and fourth AS if you decide to take it on.
