How does the university you go to effect your career?
Hello everyone. I'm back with another question.
I would like to know, preferably from someone who is working in the field of medicine, if the university you go to have major influence on how easy it is for you to find work and your salary etc.
I know a few people who is currently going to the Medical University of Warsaw, the capital city of Poland. They say that everything is great; teachers, students etc.
Since The University of Warsaw (I do not know specifically their medical faculty) is not very high ranked (around 200th in the world).
I would like to know if its harder for a graduate from Uni. of Warsaw to find a good job with a good salary than a person who has graduated from a higher ranked University.
Thanks in advance..

Once again a common myth many believe. Currently in the UK the only reasons for choosing one university over another in not prestige but the atmosphere, the style of teaching and the students! Your university does not affect your career and many doctors have said that once in to postgraduate career and training the medicine degree may not be viewed much. It's a must on a CV but will not be looked at in close detail.
Of course I could go with the view on other sites and tell you to go to oxford, where you will get the best jobs and beat everyone

At the moment, applications are blinded for name, medical school, gender and race so where you went to medical school will make no difference.
Warsaw is EU, hense someone who graduated from there, no matter how poor the course or how different from GMC approved medical courses it is would be sufficiant to apply for work in the UK.

So if I've understood you correctly; There's no way for the employeer (hospital) to know what your name is, what medical school you went to and what grades you had there, if your a male or female?
Is this common in all of the world or just in EU? For exampel, does the medical school you went to matter if you would want to work for a hospital in USA?
Thanks once again!
