GAMSAT preparation material for sale (2012) and GAMSAT advice

Hi all,

I have got my places to do medicine so am selling on the stuff I used to prepare and hope they will be useful to someone else (please note I haven’t included postage costs because it depends if they all go together or separately but will just go for basic royal mail, so please include that in your calculations). Please also see below for yet more advice on the GAMSAT:

ACER GAMSAT practice test TWO £12 (UCAS= a disgusting £26) HOWEVER, although parts 1 and 2 (reasoning in humanities and written communication) are clean and ready to go, I have made a few notes and circled answers (not necessarily the right answers, those are at the back) on about a half to 2/3rds of the questions in section 3 (reasoning in biological and physical sciences). The answers and questions are all still legible, but if you are someone who is bothered by the scribblings of other people on your books, this is not for you.

So yes, let me know if you are interested in any/ all of these. Finally since I’m here (and I amazed myself by getting 68 in the GAMSAT) I will add my bit of advice about the GAMSAT:

1) Do not ignore sections 1 and 2. I’m a biology graduate but I really set myself up to do well by getting high marks in the reasoning in humanities and writing sections. I reckon arts students actually do better in the GAMSAT since the science questions tend to be time consuming and a bit obtuse whereas if you can read fast and come up with three bullet points for and against an argument at the drop of a hat, you will put yourself in a very good position. I wouldn’t bother practicing skim reading or writing random arguments, but do go through all the GAMSAT practice papers and at least do bullet points for all of their essay questions.
2) Do bother with learning chemistry. The biology questions tend to rely less of knowledge of biology and more on reasoning from facts given to you in the question (begging the question why did I spend three years learning the Krebs cycle at university), whereas the chemistry questions relied on more actual knowledge, so get something like the book above.
3) Don’t ignore physics questions, because you hated physics at GCSE. Some of them are easy and people ignore them because things like mass and weight.
4) Buy/borrow/ steal all the GAMSAT test papers/ practice papers and do some of them under timed conditions.
