It's a long slog, but remember you still need a life, or you won't make it through.
So do remember balance.
But all the best. Remember a lot of us here have been through it, and others are going throught it. So if the going gets tough do pop in for advice.2010 Applications

Hi Kisses, I am in the same posistion as you, I am hoping to sit GAMSAT this September. I don't have a science background so I feel completely lost as where to start, hope you're making progress. I have taken some of the advice given to you, by the other members on board and will just try my best.
Good Luck,
Mike

Hi thanks for the reply, I feel the same as you really, but I think it's just because it's all new and everyone feels like it, I graduated in 2008 but my dad had an accident so I have taken time out to help look after him and worked part time. I know what you mean about course work preasure, if I'm honest I would focus on that as I am gussing your going for the 4 year med course and will need your degree, just try and build yourself a rigid study plan and stick to it, say 1-2 hours per night or every other night for GAMSAt and then attack it all through summer period fully, I'm aiming on doing about 3 hours a night if I can, I'm dyslexic so all the science stuff gets a bit tiring if go for too long..
I don't know if you're interested but I have found some useful books, I can't afford expensive prep courses so I'm making use of local Library, here are some I found.
Chemistry in Focus-John Andrew/Paul Rispoli. This i'm using for general introduction to chemisrty/Organic, it's A Level but it breaks it up well and has plenty of examples to practices getting formulas, different bonds correct etc.
Organic Chemistry for Dummies; Don't be put off the title, it's a great book it really does break everything down for Organic chem, yet it is still quite detailed and easy to follow.
Orgainic Chemistry - A Short Course: By Hart/Craine/Hart/HaDad.
I found this book today, I have only flicked through it but it seems fantastic, lots of clear big colour pictures and text breaking everything down, it's very detailed but easy to follow.
Hope those help a little, I have not got any Bio Books yet, people say the "Letts" AS/2 revision guides are good too.
Have you bought the Griffiths reviewe book? people say it's good, but I have not got it. people have left me some good advice also, so check out my posts and user name..
I think me and you are in the same boat and at the same stage, feeling the same way, all we can do is give it our best and be confident on the day, if we don't try we can only fail, best try I say..
Are you doing UKCAT too ??
I hope I have helped a little, I think it's good to know other people are feeling the same way too, If you keep checking in here then maybe we can help each other some how if we get stuck lol

Hia, sorry I didnt reply, iv been sooo vusy atm. got loads and loads of work from my current course plus all the GAMSAT stuff! Thanks for the book reccomendations, ill have a look at some of them soon. Yh iv got the griffiths guide, it really is good and forms a great basis for a study plan.
Yh im also gonna be sitting UKCAT ... which unis are you hoping to apply for? How are you gonna be revising for UKJCAT? think im just gonna get theb 600 practice questions book and work through that, thats what people seem to have said on here previously.
Hows your reviosion going? are you just focussing on the sicence bit atm or lookin at the others too?
Hope its all going well x

Hi kissess, yeah I'm just focusing on the science stuff first, doing chemistry then Bio, and will look at the essay stuff later on. I think the science is the hardest part, with essays as long as you make a good argument for and against etc then you can write what you like as long as it's to the point and makes sense.
For UKCAT I will be getting the 600 questions book as well, I think that will come in handy for gamsat also. I'm hoping to apply to Newcastle Uni(UKCAT) as it's virtually on my door step, other unis that caught my eye are Kings College (UKCAT) and St Georges, I'v have not got any real firm ideas where I want to apply yet.
How about you? where are you applying?? My revison is going so so, I seem to be writing out the whole text book Lol I have a couple of good days where everything sinks in and I understand it, and I find something that seems impossible to understand, I have left it alone for today and I'll come back to it tomorro.
I dont have the Griffiths guide yet will get it when funds allow, I have looked on the internet and found free guides from other people so just trying my best.
Let me know how you're getting on etc I'll help if I can.

Hi just picked up your message, so are you sitting gamsat this year and deferring entry ?? I wonder if they would just let you start in the Jan?? You will have a nursing background so should be able to pick it up, maybe worth asking.. So your applying to same ones as me? cool.
I know chemistry is a right pain, but I think it's best just to grab hold of it and do it, I think we've got time to get the basics down and anything else is a bonus Lol Physics I'm just going to gloss over as I wont have a clue, biology and chem are the main ones I think as they are 40% each of the science bit. I'm new to the biology section too, but I hope that will be a little easier than chem.
I think the 600 hundred Q's will really help, it's all verbal reasoning etc, I'm worried about the numeric bit in UCKAT as my maths is not the best Lol ..
Alll we can do is try our best, hopefully we will both pass and get in somewhere :-)
Give me a shout if you need any help etc.
Michael
