Cool Re: Working out the overall score

    Hi all,

I can't see anywhere on the new SGUL MBBS4 web site, the folllowing:

GAMSAT scores: (sections 1+2+3x2)/4 AND (sections 1+2+3)/3

I' sure SGUL used the (1+2+3)/3 formula before, for the highest GAMSAT score. Do they still do this?

This year they used the better of either the weighted average or the pure average. But looking at the site now I can't see any blerb on the pure average method any more. Thus for 2011 entry it's unclear if that is still available.

    Hmmm,

Thanks for the reply Martigan. If it is going to be the 'normal' GAMSAT formula (i.e. 1+2+3x2)/4) [the weighted average] then SGUL is obviously going down the route of only accepting candidates with 'stronger' science understanding than previous years! Perhaps they want to make it EVEN harder to get in, if a candidate does not come from a strong bio sciences background. It would appear so...

Maybe the site doesn't commit either way. So it could be they are just trying to make the site read better and look less like a maths test.

I was worried about that too, but as it happened the traditional weighting was more advantageous for me than the SGUL average.

Supposedly, those from physical sciences and non-scientific backgrounds do better in the GAMSAT than those from a biological sciences background.
