GAMSAT Ireland for UK entrants

Hi all thought I'd start this official thread for those of us who want to resit the GAMSAT in march. The idea is to share tips from retake studying to travel plans etc.

Those who have passed this sitting it would be good to get some studying tips especially as we have about 4 months to get our act together.

My question is I assume uk unis accept Gamsat ie results?
Can anyone sugget any Reading material and websites for section 1?

Hi Mysterio - I'm taking the March GAMSAT as well. It can be used for UK medical schools.

Not sure about section 1 materials - it is a hard one to revise for. I'm going to try to do more reading and try to get reading speed up.

My mail worry is section III.

Section III is also my main worry but I want to improve across all sections. Personally I thought Section III in sepetmber was terrible and nothing like people had mentioned last year in terms of getting to the correct answer by deduction. I plan to use Video tutoring a lot more for the next sitting rather than relying on books entirely.

Would still like to hear from some of those who have passed and how best they studied for section III. i'm least worried about section II as I am confident i can knock out a couple of good essays but will still put in some practice.

Hiya - what is video tutoring? Sounds interesting... Is it via a website?

For section 1 will you be doing anything with poetry? English Lit left me cold at school and still does..

I'm not so worried about section 2 - I did one essay and the second was ramblings and got low 60s so want to improve on that...

I thought section III was dreadful too. Do you think they made the paper harder because there was a huge increase in GAMSAT sitters?

Video tutoring is nothing more than using you tube etc to understand concepts especially organic chem - chem guy is pretty good. I think the Credit Crunch was a huge factor is an increase of candidates. Not sure if they would necesserily make the exam harder though but don't think it helps.

I will try and read text around section 1 and attempt to summarise in my own words - Improve reading speed as well!! as I left whole passages and guessed due to running out of time. Section III is the real beast for me though!

Can you use march 2010 GAMSAT for 2010 entry, or is this for 2011 entry with foreknowledge of your result before you apply?

I think the latter. It would be really good if we could slip in the new result for our current 2010 UCAS applications but that would be a miracle.

Unless of course someone has managed to do this?

is it possible to sit GAMSAT ireland in march and GAMSAT uk in the september both for 2011 entry? are you allowed to sit two in one year?

I believe you are allowed to sit two in one year. So you can maximise your chances for a good GAMSAT result and submit the result that will get you the cut off and to interview.

If this is incorrect anyone please shout !

I believe GAMSAT scores are good for two years regardless of where the exam was taken i.e. there are four chances to get a good score for a particular year of entry given the twice annual sitting of the exam between the UK and Ireland
