It's not patronising, if you ask most people who are university now studying whatever course or people who have already been to uni they will tell you the main difference between learning methods is that t university you do practically everything for yourself but at school you get most information given to you. I'm not trying to patronise anyone, really I know you have to work hard at school i have been there, but I spent more time practising exam papers than using my brain a lot of the time. I got 576/600 UMS at A Level bio by memorising mark schemes. What does that say about the curriculum eh?
The closest thing to having to analyse and interpret stuff like you would do as an adult was the AEA, and most people don't do them which is a shame!

That aspect of A-levels (particularly biology/chemistry) really gets on my nerves.

No, AEA stands for Advanced Extension Award. I think they're there for all subjects, not too sure though. Along with the knowledge you should already have picked up, it tests your ability to interpret and analyse scenarios/ data or whatever, you have to use your noggin to answer the questions basically =)

Yeah stupid isn't it, doesn't help when you get to uni and you have to think! Depends what exam board it is as well though, AQA are the worst with it. I did Edexcel Nuffield for chem and that was more about figuring out what the question meant!

I was with AQA for both!
That's why I did so well in the last exam period (basically dragged chemistry up by 7% and biology by about 4%). Figured out that learning how they want your answer is way more important than knowing the material (which is infinitely stupid!).

Lol exactly, they need to change things, I know it'll make things a bit harder but learning to how use your brain and think for yourself is way more useful when you leave school. How's physics going? Is it weird being back at school again?

    Concurred.

Some of it is quite interesting (I rather like mechanics ... can't believe I just typed that), but some of it is truly hateful (*cough* electricity and all things associated *cough*). In general I don't mind it. Me-thinks it's probably one of the most interesting after biology chemistry.

Initially it felt weird, but after a second lesson it feels pretty much the same. I guess it's just a friendless version of the same. Man ... how depressing does that sound? Five hours per week, though, I can cope!

Electricity... Haha I hate electronics too despite doing it as a whole A level! I can see how you find it interesting, I really hated physics though, never managed to get my head round it!

5 hours a week is pretty good actually. Have you started driving yet? Disaster has struck with my driving, my theory runs out next wek, and i've been trying to book another test in but there's no slots. So I have to rebook my theory, which I can't take til December when uni finishes, I have 100 extra qu's to learn and then the earliest i'll be able to do my test again is next easter! Argh!
