Is it possible for me to revise, book and sit the GAMSAT before UCAS deadline?

For various reasons I have decided to bring forward my application and go for 2009 entry. However the entry exams have me worried.

I have a good biology base to build on as I have just finished a biomed degree with a 2.i. However my Chemistry and physics is probably dire by now. My question is could I revise and sit the exam before Oct 15th?

Thanks

Ok cool I have a full time job do you think that matters? Also I'm sort of tempted to not sit the GAMSAT as its a lot of money and for me its only keele I can apply to as I have poor A level results. What do you think?

I think it's not so much money that you won't feel crushing regret two days past the deadline if you don't sit it. If you do sit it, the worst case scenario is that you don't get a place. If you *don't* sit it, the *best* case scenario is that you have some extra cash in the bank.

I registered in August last year (a day or so before the deadline), which is when I made my last minute decision to do GAMSAT (so I didn't start revising until then). I hadn't studied the sciences formally for over 10 years (and I don't use it in my job) and was working full time (still am, until September when I start medicine!)

The reason I left it so late was because I didn't think I had time to do well (and it isn't cheap - as you've already noted), but a friend who had done it the year before convinced me because she thought I could do well and it turns out she knew my abilities better than I did! Had I not made that decision I wouldn't be starting in September, so although I felt ill-prepared and there were no guarantees I am really glad I did it.

The exam itself isn't until 19th September, so there is still more than a month and a half revision.

Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.

Stephen

P.S. You could try doing some revision before the GAMSAT registration deadline (17th August, or 31st August if you're willing to pay a late registration fee of £50) and see how you feel?

That's really great thanks for telling me your story. One last question, sorry to be a pain, but did you have a job while you were revising? Mine is going to be done in the evenings and weekends. Oh and congrats on getting your place!

Whoops - I don't know how I missed out on replying to this. I was working full-time while revising (plus doing as much work experience as I could) - so was in a similar position to you. I can tell you I was really sick of GAMSAT by the time the test came around, but it was worth it in the end.
