The cut - off point for GAMSAT

When the cut - off point is worked out, is it worked out using ALL the GAMSAT scores for that sitting, or only using the scores of ppl applying to Saint Georges Medical school and Nottingham?

and what percentage of the GAMSAT sitters have applied to neither of the two universities above>

Bored at work today so have been wondering about pass marks etc. Futile, I know, but there you go.

Looking at last year's figures for SGHMS: of the 1592 who applied, 1127 sat GAMSAT. The score distribution chart from last year suggests that 1387 took GAMSAT. So, it seems that 260 of those that sat GAMSAT didn't apply to SGHMS.

So, with Swansea in the pot this year the figure could well be at least 350. Not sure this answers you question Simran but it's been keeping me amused.

I have also used this, and a number of other spurious assumptions, to predict a pass mark, based on 2000 applicants, of 60 or 61.

What a saddo I am.

Anyone else fancy a guess? Perhaps we can start a sweepstake?

i thought the number of applicants was less than 2000, at 1800 instead.

and during the lunch break i was counting the number of empty seats, 20% of people didnt turn up.

Yay, a fellow saddo!

I think you're neglecting people from last year (such as my good self) who were either interviewed and failed, or were interviewed and declined their place. So I'm plumping for 58-59.

Still bored at work and can't concentrate as still obsessing about Friday.

You're right, I didn't make any assumptions about resitters or those not resitting who were carrying forward good marks from last year (incidentally, I know of one person with a 72 from last year who re-sat!).

Did, however, take account of no-shows at a conservative rate of 10% (tho' apparently, the no-show proportion was lower than previous years).

Any more guesses?

Of the many people I spoke to on Friday, at least half of them we re-taking. Most, like me, to get a higher mark but some who had been interviewed and rejected. One had a 68 score last year. i was surprised at the number of resitters I must admit. Guessing at 60.....

Apparently 1700 people sat and 650 were in either London or Lawrence Hall (not sure which but LH seemed to have about that number)

Where are people getting these figures from anyway?

Anyone know what percentage of people fail the GAMSAT on the essay? I know 50% of those who fail do so on the essays but what percentage of the whole cohort of applicants does this represent?

Thought of getting a reasonably good section I & III score but failing the essay paper is worrying me. A lot.

Ian thingy at UCAS told me about the candidate numers when I rang him because our postman had absconded with my GAMSAT ticket! St Georges mentioned, in passing, that 2/3 of the candidates failed the essay section next year. There I go...
