GAMSAT Section 1 HELP!

Hi all!
I was just wondering what the best way to prepare for section one would be. There are lots of resources available for the Science but I have no clue how to prepare for section 1 (im a science graduate).

Any help would be much appreciated

I am also a sci grad and Section I turned out to be my best section. I was told that the best thing to do is just read a lot of suggested texts.

I didn't cover much of these but just practiced on the sample and test papers and took my time, used a dictionary a lot and reread the questions a number of times before answering the questions.

The other thing to do is just practice writing essays a lot.

Hope this helps

Some suggested reading included:

The Penguin Book of Twentieth Century Essays
A short history of nearly everything – Bill Bryson
The Selfish Gene – Richard Dawkins
No Logo – Naomi Klein
Politics, a very short introduction – Kenneth Minogue
Introducing Sociology – Osborne and Van Loon
On the Meaning of Life – John Cottingham – Routledge
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance – Robert M Pirsig

Prior knowledge of a particular topic is unlikely to help you in section I so i'd advise against read lengthy tomes and concentrate on doing and re-doing practise papers. Section I is about 'feeling' your way to the answer half the time, thought sometimes you have to work out stuuf too. It's easier if you're an arts grad. I'm a science grad, got 74% on section III but still managed 63% on section I.
I found the practise papers easier for the arts bit than in the real thing...perhaps because of exam nerves or perhaps they decided to make the arts harder in Jan 2006. Other people after the exam agreed with this. The science, conversely, was easier than usual. In my opinion, section II was the hardest part. I heard of one guy who averaged something ridiculous like 82% in sections I + III but only 45% in the essays and thus failed to get the necessary 50 or 55% minimum on section II.
SO my advice is to practise & practise the same past papers rather than spend time reading around suggested literature. This strategy gained me an overall Gamsat score of 69% having just 3 weeks to prepare for the test since my finals were in mid-december.

Hope that helps!
