Report from the Getset for Gamsat course
I went on this 6/7 Dec course at Charing Cross Hospital (might have met some of you, I was Daisy)...thought I'd give it a bit of a write up for the benefit of anyone who's sitting GAMSAT this Jan or next:
They stressed that for section iii analysis was as important as knowledge, and, tecnique was VITAL - no matter how much science you knew, for most of the 5 1/2 hours you will be answering long, complex questions in lightning quick time, and so tactics for answering multiple choice can be more valuable than knowing the science by heart. (This is what is strange for the English lot - I'd never come across this format in school). Tactics like: reading answers first, writing out your thought logic, I don't know, its quite personal - whatever works when you practice I suppose. They do give you 90 % of the info in the question, so I'm going to focus more on being familiar with the science rather than knowing it to recall.
Also, be really strict on your timing. I know everyone says it but its so important. Skip those you know will take a good few minutes to figure out and come back to them at the end, rather than finding you have 5 mins and 20 questions left and guessing them all)
Wow I'm giving alot away. Have to keep reminding myself this is competitive stuff! Sorry if this is all really patronsing to those who are very sorted for this exam. Just trying to pass on what was drummed into me...
