Cambridge study group

Hi everyone,

I'm based in Cambridge, UK, and with under five weeks to go would love the chance to get together with people in the area who are sitting GAMSAT on 9th Jan 04- whether they've been working solidly for 10 months or take a more relaxed approach...science/arts graduates...old/young - lets meet up! Even if its just to stress over copious amounts of coffee (but I'm sure we can be more constructive than that Please reply if you're interested.

I've just joined and have been reading all the posts. One minute I breathe a sigh of relief (someone reading broadsheets and learning basic prinicples) and then I panic (another who's done four weekend courses, a mock exam, a science degree etc)...anyone else see these inconsistencies?!

I'm an English graduate with A level chemistry, and have spent the past few months teaching myself physics and biology. From what I can gather (have browsed the Yahoo group as well) section three is timing timing timing, organic chemistry, and interpreting data. (Practice in these will hopefully make up for the fact that my chemistry and biology are not '1st year degree standard' as the info booklet recommends!)

I'm most worried right now about the essay section - I should have more 'ethical, moral and philosophical concepts' at my fingertips... Could anyone recommend any reading material, any books they've found really useful?

Hihi!

There was a really helpful person on the boards earlier on ths year who was an English grad and is now at SGHMS and she only had a C in A-level biology, so think of that when you feel anxious!

You have the upper hand in sections one and two you lucky, lucky thing and thats really a huge plus in your favour. I tried to read some sociology books , but couldn't really get to grips with them so just been making do with the Guardian which has been really useful. I would practice the essay Q's in the Acer examples to make sure your timing is OK. Other than that, guess its the luck of the day.

I have a degree in Economics so my sciences are a tad dodgy and I don't have the essay writing skills associated with a non science degree either, so don't worry, we are all pretty much in the same boat. Even the organic chemists are probably spooked with sections 1 and 2.

Essays

Hi

I had some example essays through from Des O'Neill, which were pretty interesting. If you email him some sample material will be through within a week.

http://www.comptext.com.au/

Basicly the first essay is very logical - thesis, for and againsts, conclusion. The second essay is very personal - lots of my experience, my goal, etc.,etc.

Rob.
ps I'd be interested in how you are get along, perhaps meet up if the timing's right. I'm sitting GAMSAT in March (Australian entry), and sat it last year. Got 60-50-71 (63 overall.) Narrowly missed a place in Melbourne Uni. I currently live in Loughborough, Leicestershire.

Wonderful, supportive site!

Thank you for your advice M and Rob - I'm hoping that regular Guardian reading and practicing timed essays (have sent for Des O Neil's!) will boost that Section II.

Rob how frustrating that you missed it last year - wishing you lots of luck this time round. Though Leicester's not really that close to Cambridge...!

One month to go, and there's Christmas and New Year to fit in as well!
