I bought Gamsat Review - my impressions

Hi I posted last week asking if anyone had tried this book from

    www.gamsatreview.com

Well, I decided to try it for the following reasons:

    1. Cheap - only 24 pounds, which is MUCH less than other materials I've seen being advertised so not much risk.

    2. The author, a guy called Peter Griffiths, sat the test very recently in 2005 and came in the top 10%, he says he's now studying at St. George's in London. This gives me confidence he does actually know what he's talking about.

    Well, here are my impressions:

The book has some very useful infromation about the university selection process and how they use gamsat plus other entry criteria, this is very useful if like me you were confused by the process and actually answers a lot of the questions I've seen people posting on this forum.

A nice feature is the little snippets of info given in the margins about doctors salaries, working hours etc.

For me personally I found the chapter on Paper I to be very useful as it contains a very comprehensive analysis of ALL the question types e.g cartoons, reading comprehension, analysis of poems etc. this is the sort of information which I've found virtually impossible to find elsewhere.

The chapter on paper II has a reasonably good essay system specially adapted for gamsat. Probably good if you haven't written essays for a while, it made me realise it was possible to write much more in the time than I had previously thought.

The chapter on paper III is basically as described on the gamsat review website i.e not a science textbook but more of an orientation of how to study things likely to come up aswell as a very good section on maths for gamsat covering things like how to manipulate formulas which seems to be involved in answering a lot of questions on paper III.

Finally it does have some precious practice questions for all the papers!!

All in all, I'd definitely recommend this book, I can't compare to things like gamsat guru as I've never read those but I can say the gamsat review is definitely worth the price being charged.

I hope this review helps anyone looking for materials.

    Sharon.

    Hey thanks for the info!
I have yet to get any materials for gamsat, except for p.copies of the pass papers! The book sounds good.

I also took the gamsat in 2005.. but i prob came near the bottom!
Is the book only available as an e-book? do you knw if a hard copy is available? i.e. a published format? How many pages is it?

The author seems quite smart, he only just took the exam in 2005.. "scored the top 10%" at geoges but I'm sure there were 100s of others too. But he took the opportunity to 'cash in' - this is what you call 'smart'! and he is also writing a book on interviews... i wonder how many he has had? I wish i was just half as smart! I need to get the book!
