Hi All,

Think it would be good to buy it between us (gamsat guru), i.e. each person buys three books or something, they could be photocopied or scanned and forwarded... any suggestions? I am starting to panic a little with all this info. I did a degree in Architecture so I have no science (did arts for A-levels) and wrote three essays at uni, so essay writing experience is not extensive. I am considering doing the gradmed courses but am a little apprehensive, they seem expensive. Does any one know how long the full course lasts?

Cheers

Hello,

Typical! You all live in London! I think your study group is a really good idea but unfortunately I live up north near nottingham. Anyway, I think Dr Prep looks like the best course for me, I may get gamsat guru too, at least you can send it back if its rubish.

gradmed

Hi Maxjazz,

If you go to the gradmed website you can get them to send you a brochure which gives you info about all the courses available, how long they last and how much they cost etc. I hate the fact that its so expensive! The full revision course which is over three weekends is £900.

hey

I think I am def. going to do a course as I have no real science (post g.c.s.e.) knowledge. The Dr.Prep. looks ok, do you think it is just as good as the gradmed?

Hey guys,

Just to say another fool here planning to take the GAMSAT in January... and I'm not in London either Liz, up in Sheffield, so a bit far for study groups!

I have A Level maths & chemistry but it's very rusty now. (and an English degree, so hopefully the essay writing won't be too much of a stretch) I was planning to buy second hand A level stuff and just knuckle down myself in the evenings and weekends, take a couple of weeks off at the end for hardcore study. I've got the info on the prep courses and might consider doing ONE of them (probably biology as it's my weakest science) ... cannot possibly afford to do the full lot!

Will have a look at this gamsat guru website... for now just reading through this whole forum to scare myself!

Just my tuppence of advice -

Having been in correspondence with Chris Lim both his website and his emails do nothing except give me the impression this is the fabled 'money for nothing' (to him).

I have purchased at full price the Des ONeill GAMSAT prep full package. I have received the first 2/8 sections of notes covering biochem and physics and I can say with confidence that a. the biochem is uni-level and the physics alevel and b. the notes are concise clear and packed full of hardcore knowledge.

So whilst being a read that demands lots of concentration and re-reading, I would be much more secure in any prep done with this system rather than the GG method which - as far as I'm aware - no one on the forum has tried!

Also, I am in London so if any guys wanna include me in the meets, I'd be up for it!

PM me.

GOOD LUCK ALL!

Leo

Just my 2 cents worth, if you choose Dr Prep - great course - but learn your science to A level before you go, and use the course as an opportunity to find out more about exactly what's needed for the test. Because it is so short, they cram an awful lot in, and if you aren't up to speed it won't be of value to you, it will just go straight over your head.... am speaking from experience on this one.... Good luck!

Hi Guys,

This is Chris Lim from GG, have been following this thread, just wanted to clear somethings up, for those of you who are deciding on how to prepare or what package to try.

As well as this forum, you can try www.gamsatforum.com(disclaimer is that I host this forum, although all the posts are independent and uncensored), groups.yahoo.com/group/talk-gamsat/(although again, this is also run by another one of the preparation course people, and this forum is moderated so they have to permit all posts manually to this forum), http://vtac.proboards51.com/index.cgi?board=gamsat(this is a very good australian medical students forum with a GAMSAT sections).

Before buying any courses/material try to get other opinions on the courses. The dilemma of course, is that many successful GAMSAT candidates aren't really around on these forums after the fact, and that the majority of people on the forums are people who are attempting the GAMSAT the first time or subsequent times.

I won't really promote the GG manuals here, those of you who want more information can email me privately(find my email on www.gamsatguru.com.au), we launched rather late in the piece last year, so not many UK GAMSAT candidates had a chance to use our manuals last year, but we had a sizeable % of Australian GAMSAT candidates use our manuals successfully.

I am a former GAMSAT candidate myself and I have been to and used ALL the other preparation courses/material out there. If you have researched GAMSAT preparation courses/material thoroughly, you will have found that there are some companies out there(which I won't name) that have changed their products to imitate almost exactly the methods that we have created.

In the end, all that a preparation course/material will do is give you a direction, the actual heavy lifting in terms of studying will still have to be done by you.
