It's not all doom and gloom you know
Just to be a bit more encouraging...
I did my degree in English and hadn't done any science since GCSEs (13 years ago). I prepared for GAMSAT in two months with an A-level chemistry book and AS physics and biology books (I was doing it all from scratch). I got 73 overall in the exam (68 in the science section) and got a place. I'm now on the St George's GEP course and massively enjoying it.
Obviously my GAMSAT result was pretty flukey, and entirely undeserved I'm sure, but don't let anyone tell you you need to know loads of stuff to answer the GAMSAT questions. It really is more about reasoning (although I know it doesn't always seem like that when you first look at the questions) so spend your time on practice exams rather than learning the names of a whole load of things that you don't give a hoot about.
My other bit of advice would be to find someone to do your work with, if you can (anyone on this board in your area?) I worked for GAMSAT with a friend and it really helped to have a sounding board: someone to get together with a couple of times a week and puzzle over the questions I'd got stuck on.

Thanks - that's really encouraging! Just one thing, you said that your degree was in English, I am doing a science degree and my English is definately a weak point, do you have any tips for the essay writing whcih I am particularly worried about. I feel that I am an excellent communicator verbally but have difficulties with the written word. Any advice would be fab - Thanks! X

Heavens here we go again. There is a list of recommended books which i got from marea at gradmed and my personal tutor val. They are well beyond a level standard. I'll admit to having difficulty understanding much of it but if thats what they want then i'll just have to plod on.

Right there's gonna be a study group meeting outside camden library at 12 noon on 29/11/2003. Anyone who wants to come and revise with the group is cordially invited to turn up. When i have more info from the person organising it i will put the thread address down on this one. I'll bring all i've got gamsat wise and i'll bring all my stuff that my personal tutor gives me. Hang on in there u lot still got 7 weeks to go. Feel free to kick me up the ass and do some work on the day as i admit getting a little bored and tired from all of this.

Organic Chemistry needs to be degree standard (1st year) whereas Bio/Physics should be at least a grade B standard at A level.
Having passed the exam I would advise you to practise lots of questions over and over rather than concentrating on knowing every single peice of scientific theory.
