The New Infirmary (Little France)
Hey, I've done quite a bit of work experience around the community but I'd like to get involved in being in a hospital enviroment, the new infirmary if possible as it's my closest. I'm not sure how I should go about contacting them and what I should say and so on. I'm not even sure if they do work experience.
Thing I'm not doing any science or maths highers this year (I'm in 5th year) as I plan do them next year, would they still accept the fact that I want to do work experience there because I want to be a doctor even though my choice of course doesn't match up to that?
Sorry, some of these questions may be a bit dumb, but I don't know anyone else who wants to be a doctor so it's quite new to me, but if anyone could give me a hand I'd be very grateful

Oh Dear. I think you may be disappointed if you apply for entry to medschool in 2006 as you have no science at all in your highers and they all expect them (different specific requirements are available on the web sites of each course) That is made worse by the fact that they expect you to get them first time of asking for the UCAS tariff. Sorry. If I was you I would contact the med schools you are interested in and sck them what you can do.

I have already, I've explained to them that the way the columns were set out I wasn't able to do the sciences and that the school practically chose our subjects for us! I'm doing int 2 biology which is stupid because I got a credit grade last year  the school insisted I took higher psychology instead. I explained to the admissions services that I planned to do higher biology, chemistry and maths in 6th year and they said that it shouldn't be a problem, therefore I'm not too worried about that. I wasn't exactly planning on going straight into medicine anyway, Edinburgh siad that it would be a good idea for me to do the nursing degree first then apple for postgrad.

Sorry Layla, but the entry requirements are pretty strict and competition if fierce. One option might be a uni like Dundee that does a pre-medical year for applicants that don't have the sciences.

I will have the sciences though, just not until next year.. Edinburgh said that as I am a pathways leaps plus I will have advantage, and if I have a nursing degree on my back too, I don't see why not.

I'm pretty sure they'll take you for work experience. When I did mine at little france there was also a 4th year school student there who obviously hadn't chosen their highers yet. I dont think I was even asked what subjects I was taking. Go ahead with you application and have fun.

I don't really want to leave home for nursing, though I am prepared to if I need to to do medicine. I'm a bit in the dark about the whole nursing thing as I haven't looked into it that much to be honest, I'm just starting to now.
