is it too difficult?
is it very very difficult to get into edinburgh for undergraduate medicine? I mean, is it as difficult as cambridge or oxford? what is its attitude toward European applicants (non-UK)? how does it consider applications? I mean, do they consider UKCAT very important? how about work experience?
thanks!!
p.s.: as I'm not from UK I read on their website that they want to know my grades from the past 3 years of high school; do I have to write them on the UCAS application or will they ask for them later on? what if I don't write them on my UCAS form but just tell them my predicted grades for my final exams (equal to your A-levels)?

why dont you ask edinburgh, instead of people you've never met?
go on, write ' are you as difficult as oxbridge to get into'
i'd love to see their reaction to that.
ask edinburger, macca. but just the sane questions, not the stupid ones."...reminds me of childhood memories,

I emailed admissions and asked 'are you as hard as oxbridge to get in to?' just for the banter expecting a less than helpful reply but got:
''Difficult to give a numerical judgement. With 19000 students applying for 7000 UK places none are easy. This is an average 45% success rate. But Edinburgh is probably in the top 5 of competition. The mean UCAS points of Edinburgh entrants are just above Oxford and just below Cambridge (ie Edinburgh second in UK) but both Oxford and Cambridge have higher acceptance of offer rates and so Edinburgh makes more offers. We make an offer to about 1 in 7.''

space_fra, I'm from the EU too (Belgium). I realise this info might be too late now, as you've presumably already submitted your UCAS application, but just to clarify:
- I didn't have to send them anything about my third last year of school
- Yes, put down the marks you got last year
- And put down the subjects that you are doing this year but don't put the predicted grades! Your teachers will do this for you! (in their references)
- I'm afraid work experience does seem to be very important! But remember, it doesn't matter if you witnessed open heart surgery five times if you can't explain why it will help you become a better doctor! On the other hand, someone who has only worked as a waitress, might be able to demonstrate that this gave her people skills, etc and so she would stand a better chance of getting in!
- And academic grades are very very important. They like to know that you're passionate about science (and other things too! I was surprised by how much Psycho-Social stuff we do here; it counts for about a third of our exam marks, and we have two reports to do which count for 10% of the overall grade)
- I haven't met that many people from the EU in my year, but that's natural; only a small number of people from the EU actually apply to do medicine at Edinburgh, after all! I don't think that they have any particular bias towards EU candidates or that they are prejudiced against us!
And by the way, Edinburgh >>>> Oxbridge!
