Durham Offers 2010

I rang Durham this morning and was told that they have sent all of their offers over to Newcastle who will eventually pass it onto UCAS to let us all know. They said we'd know hopefully by the middle of the month.

Apparently out of the 240 or so interviewed there was around 200 offers.

Thanks for that. I hope "eventually" means we won't be waiting too long. Did Durham indicate if we would all find out on the same day or if offers go out in batches before rejections?

Well the lady said mid-march, which is less than a week away so hopefully not too long.

I'm not sure how we'll find out really. All the decisions have been passed onto Newcastle to administer so I'd guess we'll find out at the same time and in the same manner as Newcy applicants. When and how that is, is anyones guess!

That seems to be quite a high offer to interview ratio. Over 80%!!

Does anybody know if thats the norm???

Those stats can't be right, there's pretty much no point interviewing someone for 35-40 mins when they can give offers to 83% of people.
Also, they won't give out 200 offers for 100 places, as most people will accept their Durham offer.

I'm just passing on the information I was told when I rang to inquire about the application status. The actual figure was a little higher, I think something like 206/240.

Obviously if you're having trouble believing me for whatever reason you could always ring them yourself.

Technically, it's not that bad. 200 offer for 100 places sounds about the norm regarding ratios for most universities, as some applicants may not meet the grades and others will choose there other choices.

I think I was more surprised then questioning what you wrote, as it makes me HAPPY!!!!!. No offence!!

Anyway I do hope you're right, because tomorrow is the 15th (the middle of March!), and I've also heard that they give out offers and rejections on a Monday.

Good luck everyone - haven't heard anything yet. I'm not overly optimistic as it was my first ever interview and I thought I completely hammed some of it, but there you go! I'm still nervous/optimistic though, as it's my last chance for 2010 entry!!

I rang Newcastle today to enquire about offers / rejections for Durham applicants. I couldn't speak to admissions directly as student services are screening the "large volume of calls". I was told that the selection process is still underway and will be until the end of March, I asked if that meant offers would not be made potentially until April and she said "potentially yes, although decisions are being made 'as and when' so you should hear within the next few weeks". I'm not sure where that leaves the Durham applicants if all decisions have been submitted to Newcastle for release already. A pretty vague response to be honest but I think the general gist is not to hold our breaths and expect to hear anything imminently or at least by 'mid-march'. On which note I am shelving the relentless checking of track for the next week!
