To Current/past Durham Medics...advice please
Hey Guys
I've been on a Gap year this year and before I start uni I just wanted to get my brain back into action, a year is a long time without study, so its probably not a good idea to go from nothing, striaght into an intensive medicine course.
I figured the best thing for me to start learning is what we will actually start with at uni...So to current Durham Medics:
Whats the stuff you look at in the First month/2 months of the medicine course?
The Specific topics/modules would be very helpful.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not planning to study from now up until uni, I'm going to enjoy my summer by traveling all over the world. I just have a month leading up to the summer where I have nothing really planned, so I figured its probably the best use of my time
Please be as specific as possible rather then 'Anatomy' 'Physiology' etc lol
Thanks in advance guys.Durham Medic- Second Year

As someone starting in Oct with no A-Level Bio background, I was recommended a book to read. Basically covering the fundamentals like Cell Biology (DNA, RNA, Carbs etc, Protein Synt and Cell structure), then basic systems like the Heart, Resp and Kidneys as Paulmc said

Sure, its called "Catchup Biology : for life and Medical sciences", it's co-written by Prof Phil Bradley (one of the Newcastle Med School team) heres the Amazon link :
Catch Up Biology for the Life and Medical Sciences: Philip Bradley: Amazon.co.uk: Jane E. Calvert: Books
It's not a bad book at all, in fact i'm quite enjoying reading it, just gradually going through the chapters. I also found some really good video podcasts which i'm working through for free on iTunes (on Anatomy and Physiology).Michael
