'and when u move to newcastle in 3rd yr, is everyone based in newcastle, or are you all spread out in clinical placements all over the north east?'
School of Medicine and Health : Course Details - Durham University
What if that had come up at interview?
As the online course guide states you will be in one of 4 regional clusters (base units) at the end of phase 1 (aka years 1 and 2). You get to pick where you would like to be, but might not get it.
You can then try to swap with someone, however again might be stuck somewhere you don't want to be if you cant find someone.
In year 4 you spend 12 weeks in Newcastle and then decide where you want to go in terms of SSC's. Overall if your a Durham medic you could actually only spend 12 weeks in NCL for the whole 5 years (crazy, ey?)5th year medical student [intercalation]

In reply to the above, I cant find anywhere where it mentions which four teaching hospitals these are and didnt know whether you were based at Newcastle and just travelled there, or whether you lived where you were based. Which are the four teaching hospitals? I'm guessing one is Newcastle general, one is Middlesborough, not sure of the rest though. Also, I cant find a timetable for the medicine years 1-5 (teaching blocks, subjects, holidays and exams included). Is there one or should I email admissions and ask for one? Thanks

Its 4 base units rather than teaching hospitals (for example, Tees base unit which is Middlesbrough in your example consists of South Tees NHS trust, North Tees and Hartlepool NHS trust and Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS trust... Wear BU is Durham/Sunderland, Tyne BU = Newcastle and somewhere else.. Northumbria BU = all across Northumbria - multiple hospitals in each)

You can live where you want as long as you can make the commitments.
Theres no timetable for the 5 years as it changes each time... however at Durham you can expect long holidays (4 weeks at Christmas and Easter, 3 months or so in the summer) and at Newcastle much shorter (2 weeks at Christmas and Easter, a month and a bit over the summer).

Explains what you will do in years 1 and 2.. and the NCL site gives some insight into the rest...
You will have (unless its changed) 2 sets of exams in years 1 and 2. Year 3 has rotational checks so I have not stated how many exams there are (same with year 5). Year 4 is a super chilled out rest as much as you can but pass the horrible exams year...5th year medical student [intercalation]

I had my interview there - in line with what others had said it was much like a nice talk between 3 people but with a few awkward blanks thrown in lol. I think I did 'OK' but God only knows...
