Hey there,
I'm a first year Dundee medic. Our typical day has been a lot different this semester than it was in the first semester. In semester 1 we would typically have lectures 9-11, then sometimes dissection 11-1, then we would often be up in ninewells for clinical skills or DPaC from 2-4pm. This semester we are in ninewells for all our classes. We still have lectures 9-11 most days, but after that we tend to have small group work in the early afternoon and then late afternoon its still usually clinical skills or DPaC or wards. It's a really great course, I am so so glad i chose this uni

There isn't a significant amount of PBL. In semester 2 you just get pbl small sessions 1-2 a week every other week and it never lasts very long... ~ 1hour?

That's not true. Sometimes one can argue its best not to go in sometimes and do an hour at home and that'll be you sorted for the day. Medics here work totally different to each other. Some/most go to the library weeks before the exams and study most of the hours per day. Others get by with getting wasted most nights and doin an hour a day extra max. It all depends on you... but with medicine at any uni.. there'll be a lot of "home work" especially later on in the degree. Also, you're not in full time hours.. maximum is 9-4 with a 1hour lunch break and sometimes a 1-2 hour break waiting for pbls etc. most of these end early

As for DPaC, taht stands for Doctors, Patients and the Community. This is how Dundee exposes you to the world of emdicine outside of your consultation room e.g. public health, international health, a bit of psychology and looking at how patients' minds work, and how to use these in your day to day practice.
Assessments come in all shapes and sizes and may change again by the time you come! But our main exams in May are EMI's aka long multiple choice questions. So instead of 4 choices you get 8, sometimes more. Outside of these exams there are small modules and you have a set of written work which you build up through each year called the RoCE (Record of clinical experience) which is a collection of patient cases. The number of cases increases each year and eventually becomes part of your portfolio, which is a record of everything you have done at medical school. That's assessed in 5th year but you'll have to ask someone else about that :P haven't got that far yet!I'M GOING TO DUNDEE!!!!!
Look out for the manic lass with the ginger afro - that's me!!! lol
