Dundee medics - help??!?!
Hello,
I have an interview at Dundee Medical School on the 13th of January, and I was just wondering if any Dundee medics would be willing to answer a few questions I have about the course?
Thanks!

hi im a bit confused by the course, it talks about being problem orientated, could someone clear this up for me.
basically give an overview of first year
covering therse things
no. of lectures a week and length of lecture
if u do any pbl and is it used for the course or just reemphasizing the lectures
how much clincal skills do you do a week
and i remember something about tutorials what are they used for again
and anything else if ive missed anything which is important
also how is patient contact done, is that under clincal skills?
thanks alot the prospectus and website are not very clear

I have my interview soon too, I posted on tsr with similar qs but was directed here
On the website it says something about a new educational facility being built - has this happened/when is it opening?
Oh and I'm pretty sure it is a lecture based lil mayne, but with case load examples?

Hi,
In semester 1 we had on average 10/11 lectures per week, each lasting about 55mins. Lectures were 9-11 (often 9-12 on Wed) and were held on campus. After semester 1, lectures are at Ninewells but I'm not sure how many we get per week, I think it will vary for each system.
PBL is done in cycles and each cycle relates to a core clinical problem such as chest pain or fever. A usual cycle has small group work, a tutorial and ITA. Lectures and what you do in other areas of the course eg clinical skills is related to the PBL cycle.
In 1st semester you get clinical skills 1 afternoon per week at Ninewells for 2hours. In clinical skills you often work with simulated patients. In 1st semester you also start your patient journey - you are allocated a patient and visit their home to learn about the patient as a person. From semester 2 onwards, you start going onto wards.
Some tutorials are linked to PBL, some are subject specific to consolidate lectures. We've also had a few lab sessions.
Anything else, just ask
