The competition is ferocious. You need to do F1/F2 then a medical rotation CMT1/2 then apply for ST3 in Dermatology. Try and bulk your CV all you can with derm relevant audits, research projects, 'taster weeks'. There are also lots of local meetings to attend - get out there, get your face known.
It is hard work but definitely worth it. Derm is one of the largest and most interesting specialties in medicine.
its true.derm is probably one of the most interesting ,at the same time competitive specialty.
In my country singapore, derm belongs to the exclusive class of top med students in the cohort, tts right. Right now you might consider mugging your freakin ass off, build up your CVs, and get your face known. Get acquainted with known dermatologist etc in a legitimate way of course!
Be prepared for tough work. derm is no less demanding than.. say surgery. Interestingly ,derm is like the midpoint between the surgical side and the medicine side. It offers a nice delicate balance, the best of both worlds. Prepare to work for it.
You earn loads..i mean LOADS .. with derm. With rising knowledge and affluence, demand for skincare and facial is soaring..and in this field with such restrictive supply ,you will have access to a v v large portion of the market. Its more commerical i would say, rather than medical. nevertheless you are still helping people look and feel good..and tts whats being a doc is all about i reckon
One quote from a surgeon mentor of mine sums it all up nicely, " the skin is the largest organ of the human being".
