I want to know how I go about planning for university and if there are any websites that will help me. Where are the universities that speacialise in Dermatology? I don't know any universities that specialise in dermatology. All medical degrees have a standard curriculum that includes Dermatology as a rotation. As for your second point about dermatology being all its cracked up to be, I never knew it had a reputation as an amazing speciality and as of yet I have never done such a boring speciality, I went through the whole rotation wishing it would end in fact it is known here as "Dermaholiday".

Brentwood. If that word has any meaning to you, then you know who I am.

In your first year of the A Levels (the AS year) you should really concentrate on your subjects. The tough part of aapplying doesn't really happen until next summer. With regards to universities, different universites suit different people. Some people want to be in London so they'll apply to all the London medical schools. Some people like the PBL method of teaching (where students are given examples of patients going to a doctor and then they have a week or so to work out that the problem is). Some people like the "older" method of teaching. Where you'll learn about systems first (circulatory, nervous etc.). These are all things i'll talk to you more about in detail later so you can take into condsideration. In the mean time around Easter, draw up a shortlist of 10 universites you've heard are good/you are interested in and keep an eye out for their open days on their websites and order prospectuses.

No universiteis specialise in anything. All medicine degrees are standard courses. You may specialise after you graduate, but only after you have done your your 2 foundation years as a junior doctor. Most people apply not knowing what they want to specialise in. Some people apply wanting to specialise in something specific and end up changing thier minds. As you haven't been exposed to all areas of medicine yet it would be unwise to choose your path just yet. You may find that you have a gift for surgery or you work well with children. You may find this link useful.

What types of Doctors are there?

Any more questions don't hestitate to ask on this forum or ask me personally.

PS - This is the ONLY decent website for medical school help...
