Thread: Medicine vs. Dentistry?

There is some truth to the view that Pharmacy is cluttered with Medicine rejects or people who didnt apply for medicine cause of their grades being too low! I can think from the top of my head at least 5 people who in their AS year wanted to do Medicine or Dentistry but didnt do well enough and have applied for Pharmacy, funnily enough all those five Im thinking of have applied to De Montford University as its considered 'soft' in terms of entry requirements!

Medicine is better than Dentistry full stop :P
anyways, I'm going to win the £66 million jackpot in the Euro Millions Lottery tonight so the "dentists have a better starting salary/earn more" debate just won't wash with me.
:P
Don't worry, I'll invite all of you round for a celebration party when I win.
Keep next weekend free :P
As for Pharmacy yes it does have a lot of people studying the course who weren't good enough to get in for the big 3 of Medicine, Dentistry and/or Veterinary Science but I certainly would never look down on the degree or profession.
Although the potential to open your own branch of pharmacies is slowly beginning to become a thing of the past with Boots and other orgnaisations buying out all the community pharmacies.
Anyways I'm off to get a lottery ticket bye!Peninsula Medical School; 2nd year student.

even though this thread is YEARS old... GP seems like the 'missionary position of medicine' but actually it is a lot more than "diagnose... give medicine". infact, drug intervention should be the last resort (aside from hospitalisation/surgery, obviously). it's more interesting that you might think. just because many of you have only been to see your gp about a sore ear when you were 6 then because of tonsilitis, doesn't mean that all the other people in that waiting room have a lot more pathology than you - especially in west central scotland!! i don't think dentistry and medicine are similar at all and i think if you want to do both you are perhaps seeking a prestigious career, rather than acting upon a vocation. i do think people's enquiries about salary are relevant though, because obviously that is an important factor in chosing any career.

Dentistry would be mind numbingly dull.
Dull job for dull people
