    Academic foundation posts

I'd like to apply for an academic foundation post; but when and how do I apply? They don't seem to give advice to applying for jobs until 5th year but I'm certain you need to apply in 4th year if you want an academic post.....

Our final year starts next June, and I think we apply in final year. Have you had a look online? For this year applications opened in May and closed in September depending on what and where it was.

For the last two years, academic FP applications have started in May of your fourth year. Then, if you don't get a place, you can still apply through the normal FPA in October of final year.

Thanks guys, so ultimately I need to start planning application in the new year and finally apply in May of 4th year for academic posts? And this is ranked like you would rank foundation posts normally?

Then if I don't get one, I can still apply for normal foundation programme in year 5??

In East Anglia, the academic F1 posts were all applied for and sorted out over the summer between years 4 and 5, between June and August I think. Everyone knew fairly quickly whether they'd got one or not, so if they hadn't they could still apply for the normal F1 posts.

Good luck with it! An academic post is my idea of hell, but I'm glad other people want to do them

Er cos this is a forum where people ask questions and help each other out with topics surrounding medical school.....

If you have a problem with that, don't join and don't ask questions yourself. My question wasn't unreasonable, I wasn't asking people to help me do my application or even do it for me, I was asking for general advice.... why is that a problem for you?

Thanks hun, I love the idea of an academic post, I genuinely like doing research! I don't see myself as a researcher indefinitely but I could see myself working as a clinical medic doing research on the side definitely! :-)

Usually the deanery will release a list of available academic programmes and what rotations they include and then you take your pick. At least, that's how it works in my area.
