Claire i'm glad it's not just me. I was getting fed up with people replying to go and see the doctor - i've seen 3 GPs and they've all said the same thing - tough luck! I'm going to be trying out a couple of the suggestions as there's no harm trying and i get plenty of warning before i go down. Fully understanding the pain in the backside thing! It's really embarrasing to me, espeically to have to explain that it's not sights/smells/thoughts etc etc just a part of me!
I'll let you know if anything works for me

Hi chicken n clare,
I too have been suffering from this for the past 6yrs and I know how frustrating it is. Been to see the GP many a times and all I got was 'it's just one of those things some people have to deal with'.
It can be really embarrassing, once fainted in the middle of the supermarket!! Thank God it was near the pharmacy section! The worst time was during work experience, literary fainted into the consultant's arm during ward rounds!!

thats weird that they cant find anything wrong with you. i take it theyv done blood tests and stuff. i sometimes feel abit faint on standing etc but im anaemic at the mo which is probably why. hence eating loads of spinach and things.

Hi Elz, yup i've had blood tests and ECG done. The only thing they could think of was to get me to do a blood-glucose when i faint - problem is i'm too out of it to do that (and usually in situations where i couldn't keep one with me easily).
Right for those with the same problem: i spoke to a surgical reg the other day who has had the same issue, and she suggested when in theatre NOT wearing socks, and when you start to feel hot then slip your feet out and put them on the cold floor (assuming you're not in a surgery with blood etc on the floor). She also said to rise and lower onto your tip toes, although if you're scrubbed in then to move one foot at a time.
I tried this yesterday and i'm sure it prolonged how long i was able to stay at the table once feeling woozy, however i couldn't reverse feeling ill and had to sit down. Worth a try though!
I also worked out that you can't squeeze with your dominant hand as previously suggested when holding instruments (doh!). And the cocktail party stance didn't seem to work too well either. But i guess it's more trial and error!BSc Biological Sciences (Hons)

well if u eat a good energy releasing diet, and try eating something when you start to feel funny, if that doesnt help i doubt its blood sugar, but u could always get a meter and test it throughout the day. haha feet on the theatre floor, thats defo a health and safety issue if something got dropped on your foot, and not sure about infection control.

The consultant didn't bat an eyelid when i was being told about taking your foot out of your shoe. And currently eating something when i start to feel funny doesn't work either as i tend to be scrubbed in!
Think it's just one of those things! Fingers crossed it'll get better with time thoughBSc Biological Sciences (Hons)
