I want a funky monkey hoodie

Gotta say I've never come across any of that. At first I was a bit apprehensive of telling people my plans, especially student nurses. But then I thought feck it, people keep asking me I'm not gonna lie. And all I get is a congratulations and then comments on how Devon is meant to be really nice. I also get the 'you're mad' comments but all in good fun

Regarding pompous gits, I've met some but I've also met really nice med students/docs too.

lets throw menarche parties and talk about alternatives to pads and tampons (sea-sponges and old cloth and blood towels oh my!)

I agree with Nadia again, when doing HCA shifts part of me is always a bit unsure as to whether I should tell people I want to do medicine.
The wards where I've told people have been really nice so I generally do.
I think its just at unis where you get the ultra-clique group of medics some people don't like them. I have several friends at uni who are medics. This probably isn't helped by the different term times, so a lot of medics end up living together.

I think the real problem lies with the "rugby boys." In general, I have nothing gainst them, by they do seem to take it upon themselves that they represent all medics. They are the most boozed up, egoistical bunch of people in the university and so they don't give the best impression. For many years the rugby types also ran med soc making it in to an extension of their boozing activities, but hopefully that will change.

And yes, some medics are incredibly selfish and thoughtless, but others are the kindest people you might expect to meet among students. The impression you give when you say you study medicine depends on you, not the profession, I expect.

In Birmingham there's also the mystery of the med school - it's on the other side of the canal from the rest of campus (shock!!), so non-medics rarely visit us (probably afraid of our security) and medics venture on to main campus still less. So of course, all sorts of myths can develop. But as an individual you can be friends with whoever.... as long as you're a friendly person.

The only good thing about course hoodies is they make dull people and self important wankers easier to avoid.

I love my medic hoodie. I really should wear it more. I dont see how it can possibly be a bad thing. There's 1 for every faculty at my uni and majority of uni hoodie wearers are non-medics...sportex for e.g is seen alot!
Someone got the point there: there are real twats in med sch...which course doesnt have them though? And sadly for nice sporty people, it does tend to be Rugby and Hockey in my med sch, and the Medsoc people following closely behind. I think its the testosterone mixed with heavy drinking
