How do you find information about intercalating?

Hi guys

I've seen a few threads on intercalating on here and I'm wondering how you all firstly get the information to help you decide whether or not to intercalate, and secondly how you find out about courses etc?

At Glasgow we get numerous talks about it in 3rd year where they go over what the course options are etc and why we should intercalate. Not sure about other medical schools though.

As said above, normally the medical schools give talks and try and encourage people to intercalate. We were given a booklet in second year with most of the courses they offered at Newcastle, and with the option to study another course at a different university.

Hi instead of starting a completely new thread about intercalating I thought I'd just join this one. I just wanted to ask a question about the personal statements. Obviously they'll include the course you want to study and why. But I was wondering what else do you have to include? Interest, hobbies, what you've been doing outside of studying at uni etc. Is there any advice on what should be included other than what I've mentioned?

Also, does anyone have any advice on what courses to choose? Psychology/history of medicine?

At King's there are talks and they also have a prospectus for courses on offer.

I'm pretty confident I want to intercalate, but in what I'm not sure. Medical law/ethics/history would be good fun and useful for much later political and administrative roles. But clinical/academic research would be more useful immediately and for academic career paths like a professorship.

I would have though ethics a positive hindrance. And in terms of usefulness for all of the above roles, I would say that reading "The Prince" would be more useful.
