Always remember the bevel means you need to advance the venflon slightly once you get a flashback to ensure you are in the vessel - not so much of an issue for pink/green, but vital once larger than that as the bevel effect is more pronounced

Good skin tension I find really helps - the fattest veins are often the most mobile, so by drawing the skin tight you stop them from moving away from your needle and make life much easier for yourself.
