I'm not looking forward to gynae ward but apparently the consultant and sister in gynae theatre are very thorough and like students to learn as much as they can but I'm a little terrified especially as they asklots of on the spot questions!!!

We don't have EU sheets, we just have the little blue book that we fill in all our checks/deliveries etc, but it's not signed so maybe we get those sheets soon :S
I hope they turn up soon

Ps. What year are you x

Hellooo, well I emailed one of my local med schools who said I would need science GCSEs and A Levels as well as a 1st/2:1 for my degree. Many people on here have advised me that I should really be ok with a degree and strong GAMSAT grade...which looks pretty terrifying I might add!

So far I am mainly interested in paeds or obs/gynae, although I start work as a bank HCA in a couple of weeks so I want to gain experience in different areas...and obv gain proper experience if I ever did get into med school. When I'm on hosp placements I tend to follow the docs around and ask lots of questions...I am probably quite irritating.

You should apply to places with the UKCAT the GAMSAT would terrify me too haha. Are you planning to stay near home and work on the midwife bank? I'm sure all the scottish uni's use UKCAT... come up here UEA use it too and accept nursing graduates with the diploma and experience so I take it midwifery could possibly be covered under that?

I'm just worried I will struggle with the chemistry side but I've been told medicine is far more biology ( obv lol) but chem and me dont really get each other lol.

Haha I do that too, the FY's/SHO's are always helpful and willing to show you stuff/let you observe but some of the registrars don't even acknowledge you, more so the forcep/scalpel happy ones.

I also get envious of the med students on their clinical placements because I reallyyyy wish I was one of them

Hiya, my course is 4 years too....but...and you're gonna hate me now...I get 3 months off for summer this year. Next year onwards it'll be 6 weeks....I am really shocked at how few holidays you get? Even the 3 year courses get 7 weeks around here.

I will be working about 3 bank shifts a week over the summer and doing some reading to prepare myself for delivery suite...as uni haven't bothered!

Oooh so is the UKCAT not quite as scary as the GAMSAT? Does the UKCAT count for GEPs? It's all so confuuusing! I would love to be able to uproot, but I have chiddlers so it wouldn't really be fair. I am also terrible with chemistry...it's really worrying me. It sometimes feels silly to even be thinking of medicine when I've always struggled with chem...I just wish I knew in advance whether or not I am being realistic applying?!

So many ifs and buts!

Oooh it's really good to chat to someone in the same boat! C x

Omg 3 Months!!! I used to go and live/work abroad in the summer and I would love to have a 3 month summer to do it again, you are really lucky :P

Have you not been on labour ward as yet? It's really good when you have someone and it's all going well but I find it can get a bit disheartening when they come and say ''better start her on synt''

UKCAT can be used for some GEP's but I don't know about the places that are near you. I'm applying for three 5 year courses and one GEP because it's slightly cheaper for me to do it up here...unless I go and stay with my auntie for 3 years and become domiciled in England lol!!!
I was thinking depending on experience needed that I might apply to UEA with the 'diploma' but i'll still do the degree modules as they are compulsory now anyway... and if I don't get in which is a big possibility at least I will know the UKCAT and how UCAS works etc. and I'll have my honours to concentrate on

I feel like that too all the time, I always doubt if I'm clever enough to even do well in midwifery honours never mind medicine lol. You should defo apply because think how annoyed with yourself you might be when you qualify as a midwife and have to work with doctor's day in day out, knowing how much you wish you were doing their job instead!!!

and yeah it's very good to have common ground with someone doing the same course x

Psst...I've always struggled with chemistry as well but from what I've heard it doesn't really matter

Six weeks a year sounds horrible! Though I suppose you get your degree in less time which is good
