hey, i'm doing management at imperial atm.
workload is pretty heavy imo, cos in the past i used to just leave it all to the end of year exams, but this year i've had to work constantly througout the year, cos of in course assessments.
we have exams after christmas and easter holidays, so we don't get much holiday. we have about 3ish full days of lectures, with the rest of the time used for group meetings. most of the coursework assessments are group work, so you need to be organised and it is annoying having to work around other people's timetables if you aren't used to it.
this term has been a lot more work than last term, as the lecturers expect us to read case studies and extra articles they give us.
what do you mean keep up with clinical work? as in extra studying at home? you can do that if you are motivated enough to...lots of people still keep up their extra curricular activities obviously, but you just need to be organised and manage your time well.
i'm not sure if it is oversubscribed for non imperial people. however, there are about 10 people from other unis on my course. in total there are 49 students. from imperial, they will take as many as want to take the course.
however, after all that moaning about work, i do enjoy it, and it's been a really nice change from medicine. i feel like i'm getting more an idea of what is happening in healthcare outside the sciency medicine part. you also get a good understanding of why the NHS has run into all these problems i really do think my communication skills has improved and confidence increased because of all the group work and presentations we do.
the only thing that i think is a negative, is that i wish i could do a scientific project, esp with all this mtas etc, i think that would be more useful in the long run than this management project (everyone does a project at the end of the year). i know it only matters if you are published, but i think the contacts you could make would be very valuable.
any questions, just ask.
