To be fair, one does usually select an avtar of the same sex for ease... although, contrary to popular belief, i am not actually Hugh Laurie.
Damian: good luck for the 9th. Isn't final year fun.

Lamp shade! wow, i thought it was an artistic photo of drill bits!
I am actually not waiting on the outcome of MTAS, i sneakily went for one of the back door academic jobs which get done and dusted before MTAS opens (mwuahaha etc).

I've looked at it for a few minutes and I don't see drill bits...
Don't know what that entails but nice one, congratulations What does that mean, are you going to be doing research?

look harder and you will see them. Its like being sat looking up at a pillar drill.
The academic rotations are a fairly new thing. The are themed F1/F2 posts (mine is in vascular surgery, which is what i want to do). All the jobs are related (ie you dont end up doing psyc or paeds) and you spend one of your F2 jobs (ie 4 months) doing lab research and teaching alongside your clinical work - which is a lot less intense for those 4 months.
I'm hopining it will give me the chance to get a few papers and make me stand out from the crowd. At least it was CV and interview, and none of this "how to write politically correct crap in 150 words" rubbish.

Hmmm didn't know what a pillar drill was until I looked it up there, suppose it does...a little...
So if you decided what you wanted to do definitely in your last year of med school you have a better chance of getting a job (and don't have to go through MTAS)?

not necessarily. These academic jobs are a) very specific b) very limited and c) very competetive. The only real advantage is that you are competing based on your CV and interview performance, which you control, rather than some quite arbitrary statements on the MTAS form.

Damian ...
Actually.. nurses roles vary to thhose of PA's. PA's take histories and diagnose according to the same medical model as doctors. Whereas, nurses do not diagnose.

Apart from the nurse consultants...and the specialist nurses...oh and some NP's etc.
Anjoo...things are changing, keep you eyes open as lots of the new roles will be killing off ours.
