    Question What is it like?

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this school. I applied to the medical school and did not get in, but I did get into the master's program here. I have never been to Chicago, however and do not know if this is a good school or not. If anyone could tell me anything about the school (bad or good) I would really appreciate it. I am trying to decide if I should go or not. Thanks for your help!

Like any medical school, the name matters less than the effort you put in while you are there. Rosalind Franklin is known as a lower-tier medical school which basically means they can be a little more liberal with the GPA and MCAT cut-offs; I have a friend who was admitted with a GPA of 2.9, but he had a good MCAT score, publications, and an M.S. degree.

A couple of years ago (when the school was called "Finch"), it was placed on probation by the LCME (the agency that credentials all M.D. programs in the U.S. and in Canada), allegedly for relying far too much on student tuition to drive the academic program. I believe the probationary period is now over. The major downside is cost; tution at this medical school now exceeds $40, 000 per year and the school is quite distant from Chicago.

However, the residency match list is rather impressive. Every year, several graduate match into competitive residency postions (neurosurgery, ortho, platsics, dermatology etc.). So, once again, in spite of reputation and admissions standards, you can receive a fine medical education there and be a competitive applicant if you work hard. I hope that helps.
