Dear Ladies and Gentleman,
First of all, I would like to say my heart goes out to all those involved including their close families and friends. This is a tragedy, and the school could have done more and should have offered Vivas, as they(you) were working and safe at it!
According to laws in this country (Medical Act), you did have to stop work, but this intrinsically although heartbreaking is reassuring that there are not that many doctors working in the UK that shouldn't be working. We all swear by the Hippocratic Oath or similar to it and they all put the patient at the centre. This includes their safety with, first do no harm.... We all should follow established GMC guidelines too.
Cardiff Medical School although could have done more, have been really brave, and stand out as a great medical school. I would have be proud to graduate from a medical school, that truly does follow Good Medical Practice, cares about the NHS and without that much skulduggery, especially given newer changes.
However, not all schools have as much integrity as Cardiff Medical School, as this is not a new incident. Not in the past not even now! Look at UEA Medical School 2009.

Well said.
I'm certain there is at least some psychological harm caused to four individuals who were suspended. This is peoples' lives (students' as well as patients' remember), and not something trivial like being short-changed at Tescos! More care should have been taken, and basic lessons were not learned.
Brave?! I wouldn't quite describe their actions as 'brave' ! They had little choice but to inform the GMC. If ignored and unsuccessful candidates pursued this beyond the appeals process, there would have been a clear audit trail.
BTW what happened at UEA in 2009?Last edited by angiogram; 11-02-2010 at 04:53 AM.

Yeah - I know!
I guess the business about UEA is just a diversion. I can't find anything about UEA
