My how patronising.
Fizz is a little older than you, Mamba, and spent 4 times longer than you have so far at Cardiff, so what he says carries some weight.
I've had very little experience of Cardiff save those friends of mine (now graduated) who went there. They too expressed more-than-normal levels of dissatisfaction at their medical school admin. It is of course possible that things have changed dramatically in the 6-18 months since they left, but in my experience things seldom change quickly.Spencer Wells BSc(Hons) MBBS(UCL)

I know a few people who love Cardiff and are happy to be there. I know a few more (those closer to the end of their training) who have lost confidence in the medical school and can't wait to leave.
I have to say I wouldn't feel comfortable knowing that my exam results were truely mine if I were at Cardiff!...ANYTHING WRITTEN BY ME ON THIS SITE DOES NOT REPRESENT THE VIEWS OF SOUTHAMPTON UNIVERSITY!
Finally a final year medical student!

Spencer I think you are the one being patronising. Just because Fizz has spent a few years longer than Mamba at Cardiff doesn't make him/her the authority on the place.
Many people in my year had completely different experiences at Med School, some loved it, some loathed it, some fell foul of every mistake by the med school office others went 5 years without a hitch.
Mamba has just as much a right to express their opinion of their time at Med School than anyone else. If anything divergent views should be encouraged - allowing prospective students to get as many views as possible before deciding where to apply.

There will usually be the more 'extreme' ends of good or bad expressed on a forum. Less people go out of their way to tell that a place is OK. But I agree with James, when I was an applicant I would want everyone's opinion, then I could myself assess whether I thought a place was good or not!

Fair dues Fizz you kicked me in the @ss good style with that one !
I don't want you to get me wrong. What happened was terrible and a joke. It is very embarrassing. I see useless admin weekly in Cardiff and it makes me tut and shake my head daily. BUT, its isn't a horrendous medical school and my only point is that it unfair to attack the medical school based on this occurrence.
The tutors are great, the relationship with students is great. The experience in our teaching staff is inspiring. I really do love Cardiff. I don expect you to agree with me. If you look back at my comments all I ask is that you don't alter what may be a life changing decision for someone because of how a friend has been affected. As terrible as the situation is.
The fact is, we have a new Dean. He is very keen to improve all areas of the school, especially student satisfaction. I genuinely feel privileged to be in a uni where you have the Dean of Medicine's ear. I can't reiterate enough, YEAH admin are not very good. But that is the only issue. (in MY humble opinion).
Unless you have attended the medical degree, or at least Cardiff Uni itself, I don't think its fair or right to assassinate its reputation.High School 1997: 10 GCSE's A-C

Oh and about the grades, it was less than 5 people that had errors due to the database issue. The new database is already being installed.
People stating their is a lack of confidence in results, and their own score may be going to someone else in 60% of cases is just silly and untrue ! There have been both internal and external investigations and I attended the result of one hearing. We are talking about no more than 5 people. However, it still is very, very, very wrong. But, this was an isolated case and deserves to be juged as one. Believe me I am 100% behind the students that got screwed around with ...100% !!!!!!
But posting stats that are untrue will do no favours for your friend or people reading it. If 60% of the marks were wrong, go to the press! Go to the GMC, because you have information that no one else does and it needs to be known. I feel however that your information could be born from anger, dissapointment and support for your friend. Hence I replied to this thread.Last edited by Mamba; 01-02-2010 at 10:04 PM. Reason: spelling

Is that what they told you in your Q&A session?
Only 5 people's pass/fail status was affected, but apparently dozens of people received the wrong grade I was also told that a decision not to inform them of the error was taken. I'm still unsure what my actual pass mark was/is.
The original poster is closer to this than you realise Mamba, his/her comments are not random off the cuff comments. They are closer to the horses mouth that you may realise.FREE EMQ EXAM PRACTICE
