i know, people that are applying this year will be aware of the whole story in the new year; my friend and the other doctors/medical students are going to the media and the BMA will be expressing their views too. it doesn't look good for the medical school at all. i think though as medical schools are oversubscribed again cardiff will not miss out in terms of numbers of students, but certainly the best students will stay away.

No one is perfect, human error occurs everywhere. Irrespective of these errors there is certainly no doubt that Cardiff is still one of the best Medical school in UK considering the fact that they accept students with 8-12A* in GCSE and 4As At 4 A-level. Students with high calibre.

is that why they are so very very near the bottom of the league table for student satisfaction??? let me guess, there is a reason for this too right?! i am sorry but despite my efforts to explain the extent of their errors and that more will come to light when the results of their review is done, some people will insist that cardiff is great. it is an appalling medical school. despite your assertions

Opinion are like noses, everyone has one, u are entitled to ur opinion, that is yours and that doesnt represent the view of others. If u like it or not Cardiff is still the BEST at least the NOBLE PRIZE in 2007 in Medicine which is the highest award won by Dr Martin Evans speak for itself.
Which league table are u talking about? Every year is different and even top medical schools like Bristol, St Andrews and Manchester are normally at the bottom 3 of the Guardian and Times league table in the year 2009.Last edited by cliffgee; 14-12-2009 at 05:47 AM.

I hope the school is taken to task over this "cock up" particularly as someone said this is not the first time and procedures were supposed to be in place.

Cardiff is an excellent Medical School. They made a terrible mistake in its administration. The admin in Cardiff is not good. The teaching, the lecturors, the relationship between school and Students is amazing and unique.
I feel for these poor souls, I feel for the University too. If medicine is anything its humans trying their best despite unpreventable human error. This is the same. I understand this is your freind voiceofmedical, but at the end of the day... he failed. Sadly he took a punch to the gut by being told he had passed, but due to the serious nature of medicine what can be done ? They cannot be allowed to continue for obvious reasons, no matter how competent and well trained they are.
Cardiff scores very low in student satisfaction despite always getting 100% in job prospects. The GMC states that Cardiff students are very highly trained and greatly appreciated in the Foundation years. So AS A CARDIFF MEDICAL STUDENT I can inform you where the disatisfaction lies, admin and organisation. I'll be honest though, its not that bad. I look at the tables and I wonder at how much the students are pushed to fill in those forms and sell their university. Here in Cardiff we are just honest. Admin annoys me, I have just had my own issue with them. But It by no means outweighs how great the actual Medical School and Degree is ! I pinch myself regularly, Medical School is a privealage to attend.
It's worth noting too that Cardiff has the highest exam failures. Think about that for the moment. The reason being that they expect so much, and the standards are that high. This obviously has an affect on student satisfaction. They accept nothing but the best from the students and the workload is heavy. We have been taught the anatomy of the human in several months whereas in other Med Schools it is over 2-3 years. Cardiff is NOT for the faint hearted or weak academic.
Cardiff is an excellent medical school, Voiceofmed, please do not attempt to tarnish a medical school due to a friends personal terrible experience. This is the real world, real life. Shit happens. At the end of the day he failed. Support him so that he passes on the second attempt. Instead of issuing blame, help him out.
Incase you think I dont recognise the issue, we are infact having a Deans Question Time for the first time in Cardiff this week. Top of the agenda is HOW, WHY and especially WHAT have they done to prevent the terrible mistake they made, happening again. I'm just glad I am in a Medical School where we are free to ask with no threat of recourse.
Once again, my sadness for your friend.

I'm sorry to disagree with you Mamba, but Cardiff is the 4th University I have studied at and personally I found it the worst experience of my life. I would never return, and would certainly not make any personal recommendations for others to study Medicine there.
My experience is that this mistake is not an isolated one, and I am surprised more people haven't been hurt. I have heard rumours that there has been some political interest in the above mentioned. Here's hoping something is done to expose any potential cover ups, and that measures are taken to prevent others being hurt.

Each to their own
No,
I was just putting in my opinion. You cant tell me I am wrong or that I dont feel how I do, because I AM really happy at Cardiff and I am very happy to be on the medical degree.
If you felt otherwise or felt differently, I respect that. Voicefor hasnt studied there, that is the point I was making.
If you didnt like it, then I am sad for you, not because its Cardiff, but because that must of been unpleasent. As for me I love it. I would and do reccomend it to lots of people for that reason. I have encouraged my little sister to study here too.
I honestly hope you enjoyed the uni you moved to as much as I enjoy studying at Cardiff now.

Voicefor is also a Cardiff Medstudent
Fortunately I have graduated so haven't moved to any Uni. I hope your experience continues to be a positive one Mamba, you are a relatively new student and have far to go. I wonder if your opinion will still be the same after the honeymoon period wears off.
Good luck with that one ... FizzFREE EMQ EXAM PRACTICE

Thank you,
I hope it does too ! I 'm 29 years old, so I have a fair idea about the realities of life. Tesco isnt all that fun, neither is farming, roofing, painting, plumbing, digging holes. Then we have the perspective of other nations, begging for food, looking for things to sell on scrap heaps, sleeping under roads in ventilation shafts..... Dodging bombs, hopping mine fields, running from gunfire... all happening as I type.
Am I happy to be studying medicine in ANY university ? Yes, I imagine you are quite young Fizz, when lifes honeymoon period wears off, maybe you will recognise how lucky we all are, admin errors and all....
