Any couples moving to Cardiff? Advice would be much appreciated!
Hey everybody!
I was just wondering if anyone would mind helping me out! I'm a bit stuck with what to do about moving up to Cardiff! Now that my dream to study medicine has finally come true , me and my partner can start thinking about where to stay etc. but I would really appreciate any advice anyone could give us! Initially we were thinking about getting somewhere on our own, but now I'm thinking about maybe getting a flat or something that is actually part of the uni's student accommodation would be a better idea! I have friends that are already at Cardiff and they said that living away from the student accommodation makes it much harder to get to know people which is a scary thought but one that also makes sense! I would love to chat to someone who has been through this before or maybe some of you are going through this now?
Many thanks in advance!

I have got an unconditional offer from cardiff too - I've lived here for 5 years and love the city. I moved here to study physiotherapy and during that course I lived in shared housing which did help the social side of things. That said I would never chose halls again (having done it in my first degree, yep medicine will be my 3rd) as its full of young people having fun in cramped spaces with loud music! lol
I'm planning to live in my flat at uni, I think 'll just have to make an effort to make friends... If you have yr partner then I wouldnt worry as its a new move for both of you.
I would recommend getting a place near the city centre.
Roath, Heath, Cathays are all nearby and full of students and upbeat. Splott and Grangetown, Riverside are cheaper but a little further from the uni, but still walkable from town. Wouldnt advise Ely. Just grab a map and have a look. I live down near the Bay but it is a good 30 min cycle to the hospital so a bit far away to be social.
Hope that helpsCardiff: interviewed feb 09 OFFER

Hi Cath907!
Thanks so much for your reply! Very helpful! I've been looking at the areas that you suggested and it's also good to hear that living in student housing was still very sociable! I know what you mean about halls!lol! Being woken up at 3 am is something that I wouldn't miss! Medicine as your 3rd degree, that's fantastic! Once again thanks for your help and I look forward to seeing you at Cardiff!
