These are some of the questions I can remember from the interview:-

    1. Why not nursing?
    2. Did you think that a higher proportion of patients have psychological problems than the general population?
    3. You have mentioned good points in your personal statement, what would you say are your bad points?
    4. Tell us about your job?
    5. When have you worked in a team, give an example?
    6. What are the disadvantages of working in a team?
    7. What stresses could a junior doctor be faced with?
    8. Why Cardiff?

The interview itself seemed to go so quickly! I think that it was actually about 15 - 20 minutes! One of the interviewer's pagers bleeped during the interview! Luckily it didn't put me off!

ok i had my interview today for 2010 entry and thougt id share my questions

1-How did i get to cardiff/was it my 1st time etc

2 - Do I like to ski? This led to the introduction of how Liam Neeson's wife died after she hit her head while skiing without a helmet; should it be made compulsory to ski with helmets?(random)

3- After i said something about how helmets should be compulsory as a safety reason and people undrstand it is in their best interest, this led on to whether or not smoking should be banned-very tough question as my regular answer to this sort of contradicted what i had previously about helmets so i was kind of stumped.ended up blurtn sumat about how the taxation on cigarettes goes to good use e.g NHS-although this was a mistake as the man argued against me sayin it was used to treat patients who smoked-d'oh!

4-You have a strong academic profile, how important is the balance between academic ability and common sense as a doctor; can you give a situation where you have used your common sense (again something i was not expecting!)

5- Are you into any sports etc (though this was more as a general remark and wasnt really in a formal sense-didnt really care what my answer was)

6 - Medicine involves a lot of academic work, how will you cope with it/how do you cope with your school work and your extra-curricular activities

7 - What societies will you join at Cardiff (i was a bit stumped as i had planned to lie and say the football society-but in question 5 i said i didnt play football anymore so i had to lie and say the debating society-dont even know if ther is a debating society lol)

8 - what is the cornerstone of a good doctor-patient relationship? this led on to confidentiality and under what situations can it be breached

9 - talk of dissection and what is the advantage of the students doing their own dissections

10 - what do i know about alzheimers; they explained an article in the BMJ saying that people with alzheimers should be tagged incase they wander off and dont know where they are-what are the reasons for and against this; this led onto a discussion about competency and informed consent

11 - Some universities dont interview-what is the advantage of interviewing applicants?

Was personally very disappointed with the questions i got-nothing based on personal statement really, nothing about work experience, my knowledge of Cardiff course, knowledge of medical career, MMC etc. Nothing on typical controversial topics such as stem cells. The vast majority of my questions i found quite random and required me to really think on the spot so all my preparation was pretty much a waste of time. So in that sense i thought my interview was quite tough.

The interviewers were ok.The student was very nice. The 2 men (a doctor and some random scientist) werent too bad. They didnt really give much away about whether they liked me/were satisfied with my answers. they more or less sat with blank expressions.

The day on the whole was very good. You got a good talk in the morning followed by a visit to the dissection room which was very good. The students on the tour were very helpful and it helped you to relax a bit before the interview. Although naturally the nerves return when you are in the holding room.

The interview was 20mins long but seemed more like 5mins. All sort of seems a blur.

By the sounds of it, its just the look of the draw whether you get nice or tough interviewers. Other people seemed to get more straightforward questions about their future aspirations etc.

But on the whole my advice would be to try your best to stay relaxed

it would probably depend on your interviewer. From what i remember the only really ethical scenario i got was the one about whether people with Alzheimers should be tagged. I would highly doubt that any1 would manage to escape the dreaded ethical scenarios. But how many you get would just depend on who is interviewing you

Lol but everyone in this thread didnt mention any ethical scenarios except you. Must be bad luck i guess. But it seems that most of the interview is very general and about personal statement and life really!
