My interview at Cardiff was odd, I felt like I could take very little from it.
How long did it take you driver her today?
You've worked in care homes; tell me how the staff there perceived you?
What did you do there exactly?
How did the staff feel about the patients there?
What surprised you most about them patients?
What is your understanding of "bedblocking"?
How would you go about solving the problem of "bedblocking"?
Who makes up the team in Primary health care?
If you were Welsh health minister how would you allocate an extra £18 million?
What do you feel are the two major health issues in S Wales at the moment?
How would you go about solving the problem of diabetes?
Do you think there is overkill in educating the public with regards to medical issues?
What do you do to relax?
What is your understanding of HIV?
Why do you think the developed world has forgotten the message with regards to HIV?
What was the last fiction novel you read?
What characteristic is unique about you?
How do you deal with difficult people within your workplace?
Any questions?
-Polite conversation about Cardiff and the weather ensued-
As I said, I felt some of the questions were fairly intense so it was hard to take anything from it. I was in there for just over fourty mins too and considering I was the last of the day the panel were terribly polite.

How long did it take you to get here?
Have you been to Cardiff before?
Why are you doing Art AS level?
What part of art do you like: painting, drawing...?
I see you read New Scientist and Scientific American. Tell me about a finding that you think might be of use to medicine in the future.
What's good about being a doctor?
How about the bad points?
The time that it takes to become a consultant has been decreased. What are the implications of this?
Have you been to a hospice?
What sort of place do you think a hospice is? Depressing?
You had some work experience in a District General Hospital. What surprised you when you went there?
What department did you go to?
What did you see when you went to Radiology?
Do you know how MRI works?
Do you know who invented CT scans?
Give me an example of what you saw whilst on work experience.
Do you know what a Pathologist does?
Have you had results from your AS modules?
Do you have any questions for us?

my interview was in April 2005. most of the questions were based on my personal statement, with a few additional questions asking me about being an international student at cardiff.

hey there, my interview was december 2003, did pre-med and i'm now a first year. The first question i was asked was "is your job like baywatch??!" as I put on my PS about my beach lifeguarding summer job! That started it all off in a friendly manner which continued, it was all just an informal chat for 20/30mins, we talked about my plans for my gap year and as one of the doctors had just got back from Mexico working he told me about that. We did talk about urban migration in latin america (only because I brought up latin america) and a little bit about the bristol baby organs scandal. The time passed really quickly and it wasn't scary at all! Hope that's reassuring! Jo :-)

I had mine today. It started with limited, "how did you get here" questions, followed by "why medicine" (read the personal statement!), followed by:
- tell me about a recent medically-related ethical issue from the news that has interested you
- tell me about another recent medically-related ethical issue from the news that has interested you
- tell me about another recent medically-related ethical issue from the news that has interested you (ahhhh!!!)
- what do you understand about abortion?
endless ethics questions! and I spend ages answering each one and went into several different problems within each issue. Also I got:
- you do a lot of music and drama, do you enjoy any of those things in particular? (:-S)
- in you work experiences, has anything put you off medicine or shocked you?
- do you know about the cardiff course?
think that was about it
good luck everyone!

I know that the interview cycle for this year is now more or less over but I thought I'd share my most unnerving question with everybody now that I know the outcome:
"Who would you invite round for dinner and why?"
I nearly died. They questioned every single answer! At least I got to show off my debating skills...
Caerdydd 2007 here I come!
