With cardiff still taking their sweet time, other students going to cardiff are filling out their accomodation forms and sending them back. Surely this means that prospective med students are at a serious disadvantage of getting the accomodation they want, especially if its popular.
What have current students found? Have you got into the places of your choice and when will cardiff send accomodation forms out to those who get offers?
Hey there, I'm currently doing a foundation year at Cardiff Uni so providing that I pass - I'll be a 1st year medic in september - fingers crossed! I'm in halls at the moment, can't remember when we got sent the info think it was april/may time but the accomodation only got given to us two days after exam results in august so I wouldn't worry too much - i got my first choice as well, keep smiling! Yeh, accomodation can't be allocated until the uni actually knows who's going to be there next year. Of course, nobody will know that until results are available and you won't receive confirmation of your accomodation until about a fortnight after results day. I wouldn't worry about it too much as I think I would have been happy in almost any of the halls at Cardiff. It's the people what make it, not the buildings! Plus, it's relatively common to switch halls during the first few weeks, you've just got to put your name on the swap list.
I'd say there's a pretty big difference between say University Hall and Talybont just in terms of location (relative to lectures/town/union/any pubs at all!!!) so I can understand why people want to get it settled. I wouldn't worry though as different people want different things and it seemed to work out fine for pretty much everyone I knew when I was there.

But the buses and stuff make it bearable. Nobody makes a big deal of Uni Hall being further out. There's a great sense of community up there anyway, far outweighs any disadvantage. It's the luck of the draw, so deal with it! Everyone has an amazing time wherever they are! I'd love to be in any of them myself.. really miss halls!
Hey i was in talybont and I had my interview fairly late March time so I'm sure some people will get theri top choice. Everyone I knew in uni hall was happy as well though
I was just wondering whether anyone knew which side of Talybont (I.e North or South) is normally preferred by students as accommodation? It's just that, on the Open Day the Med. Student who was showing us around told us that one side (the annoying thing is I can't remember which one!!) was great and to go there if we could?!
Anyone have any idea which this could possibly be, and if so, why is it supposed to be better than the other?
I'm not really too sure if one is preferred to the other, but I just thought i'd check!
Umm yes med students also recomended one side to me, I think it was south but not 100% sure. Ones nearer tesco and the heath, the other biomed and city centre. But as you're based at biomed for your first years anyway guessing nearer that and city centre is better, which would be south???
No idea about the actual accomodation, as never got to see it, but i'm guessing both will be good.
Yeah i'm the same. If I get rejected from SGUL I know I need to improve to stand a chance with notts whereas if I get an offer from SGUL I know I'm on the right lines! And also, going to an interview...
I think they are, though not 100% sure. Someone on here made a good point in that less people may have deferred from 2011 to 2012 due to the fees hike, especially since less was known about it last...
Yeah they told us the last day was the 31st but I would have thought they'd be processing as they go along so it shouldn't take 4 weeks after the last interview surely? I'm actually really intrigued...
