South is the better section. Significantly nicer rooms and a bit closer to Biosi and town. It's only a 10 minute walk from the start of south to the end of north so no big deal. Both are equally distant from the Hospital as you leave the site to go in that direction where North and South meet. Talybont North is known locally as TalyBronx, Taleban North etc. etc. You get the picture!
I know that they were hoping to upgrade all rooms to have network connections, but I'm not sure whether that's reached North yet. South is definitely enabled. The new halls at Talybont that are being built (not sure what it's called yet) look like they'll be nice. Severn Point (lies adjacent to Talybont South) and Victoria Hall (south of Talybont South, closer to Uni and town) are the nicest.

Ahh thanks a lot for your help - really appreciate it!

Got more to go on now when deciding.
Thanks again,

No problem! Don't get too stressed out about residences tho! I didn't get my first choice... I was in North but it was fine! If I had my time over I'd be happy in most of the halls (apart from the small ones like Hodge or Jenkins) but I'd put Talybont South, one of the posh new, expensive ones, or Senghenydd as my top choices. I think Senghenydd is overlooked. OK, it's a bit manky and traditionally studenty, but it's so close to town - staggering distance! and so close to Uni - just roll out of bed! Think it's amongst the cheapest, too!

ello.
went for a wander around the heath campus on the weekend and saw a load of what seemed to be accomodation buildings *yellow ones e.g. glamorgan house etc.* and was under the impression that all med students were accomodated in these - near to hospital, med school, med club etcccc. so confused now because people are talking about senghenydd and tal y bont which seem really far away from the med school.
any advice??
cheers.*life moves pretty fast...if you don't stop and look around once in a while - you could miss it*

Umm are you based at biomed buildings or in the med school for your first two year?

No. The halls at the Heath Park Campus are for healthcare students like nurses, physios, OTs, radiographers etc. All pre-clinical teaching is based at Cardiff School of Biosciences, Cathays Campus (i.e. next door to the main university building on Park Place, opposite the Union). You do spend the odd day at the hospital in the first two years, but your main base is Biosi with the rest of Cardiff University buildings like all of the other undergrads.

Hey guys,
I was just wondering if you knew if those of us with our grades already will get first dibbs on Halls I only say this because I have been told at the open day of another uni that this was the case.
Thanks

No, I think it's just random allocation after results day. Some will get their first choice, others won't. I got my fourth choice and I had my offer in February. It's fairly easy to move once you get there as quite a few students drop out at the start, you just have to put your name on a waiting list.

so there's no advantage in getting in ur form asap? and those applying to cardiff for other subjects who have heard back from them ages ago and sent off their accomodation forms already wont have advantages over us? i really really want my first choice! though i guess i'm just happy to be going to cardiff!

I don't think so. Maybe you're bumped up the list if you send your form back early? Not sure. I think it's just so logistically difficult as at the moment they have thousands and thousands of potential students from all courses. They won't get a clearer picture until UCAS confirmation after A-Level results.
