Apply - some questions
Hi,
I would like to know something about applying to study at University of Cambridge. So I have some questions…
Can I apply for medicine if I have been studying other course (also other University) for one or two years? Earlier I graduated high school (secondary school) and I passed the exams (Biology, Maths, Chemistry, English). Now I’m studying in other Medical University (it’s not a gap year). I have been learning Chemistry, Physiology, Statistics etc.
Is it possible to starting studying in Cambridge if I’m more than 19 years old? How old can I be (I think about medicine)?
And other question… Do you know if I can apply twice? For example, can I pass BMAT twice or many times?
Many thanks

Hi Sunney.
Well it depends on what your degree is and whether you want to apply for the five year course or the graduate entry (4 year). Also you can do the BMAT which is required for the five year course every year until you get what you want.

Thank you very much, grandhotel
But what is the difference between the five year course or the graduate entry (4 year)? Where is it better to apply (or easier)? Also I would like to know whether there are a lot of applicants from other countries every year. And whether a lot of them are accepted to study medicine. How about their situation? Do you know anything? There isn't a lot of information on the Internet.

The undergraduate (5 year course) is for those who don't have a degree and their application is based on their GCSE/A-levels/BMAT results. However the 4 year course at cambridge is for those people who already have completed an undergraduate degree and apply using their degree (at least a 2.1), at the moment cambridge doesn't require an entrance exam for it's 4 year (graduate) course. Also there are only 22 places available across Cambridge University for overseas (non-EU) Medicine students. And to be honest applying to medicine isn't easy anywhere in UK, but as long as you have good grades, good personal statement and be able to show you're up to it in the interview, you'll have a good chance.

OK, I understand. But How about the situation if I'm from UE? Whether I'm treated as someone from UK in the process of applying? How many students are from other European Union member countries (non-UK) every year? I realise there is the huge group of applicants. But how many people start medicine every year (from non-UK countries)?

I think your best chance to know is to directly contact the universities that you're interested in because they usually don't disclose the number of EU students applying to their medicine courses.
