Cambridge and A levels
Hey, so I would like to apply to Cambridge to study medicine. But from what I can gather, they want applicants to have three science A levels. That's a problem for me, because currently I'm in year 12, studying Chemistry, Biology, French and Music and next year (providing I get all my As), I'm probably going to drop French.
First of all, I'd like to clarify: do I need 3 science A levels to get into Cambridge? And does it differ between colleges? Also, do you think I'm making the right decision in dropping French?
Thanks

Check out the Typical A Level Offer section of the Entrance Requirements page. It does vary from college to college, so you may stand a chance yet.

I'm pretty sure all Cambridge Colleges need 3 sciences to at least AS Level. You could apply to Oxford though.

Most colleges only require 2 science A levels- some require 3 and those are mentioned in the prospectus.
Medicine at cambridge (2009-12)
Ucas (2008 application cycle):
Cambridge- offer (firm)
UCL- unsuccessful
King's- waiting list... unsuccessful
St George's- waiting list... (unexpected) offer (insurance)
Ib results (may 2009): 44/45 (7,7,7,7,7,6 + 3)

yeah...that's what i'm wondering.
i'm in year 12 too, but i've taken biology, chemistry, psychology and maths. i doubt that psychology counts as a science! actually...it might count as a social science...hmmmmnnn...does anyone think that would do? i'm predicted A's in all of them-no pressure!

However, ALL colleges require 3 sciences to at least AS Level. The OP doesn't have this. Whilst you are correct only some colleges require three to FULL A2, the OP doesn't even have 3 at AS. If you look at the min requirements "passes at at least AS level in 3 subjects from bio chem phys maths", she doesn't meet that.

In that case, the best advice for the OP would be to contact a college admissions office and ask if his/her application would be considered. If they say no, then the OP would either have to find a way of taking Maths/Physics at AS or decide not to apply to cambridge (to prevent wasting an application).
